The sweetest little girl is FOUR today!!!!!! 😭❤️❤️❤️❤️🥹

This girl has flipped my world upside down in every best way.

This little girl is full of joy and life. She is the best most excited friend to all. She is so curious and observant. She is so sweet and so kind. She is HONEST. She loves so deeply. She is a funny and bubbly little girl. She is so precious and so wonderfully created.

She truly is the best. It is a blessing to celebrate her today after watching her celebrate all her people so hard every single day. (One small example is she always cheers for me and encourages me as I brush my teeth and comb my hair with a BIG high five to follow 😂).

Today is your day sweet little bee!!! WE LOVE YOU!!!! ❤️❤️🥹🐝 by @courtneyraeherrmann

🎉Happy FIRST Birthday to our Shepherd Zeal! One year ago today you came into this world full of peace and calm, changing our lives for the better!

This little boy is the sweetest, happiest, most curious and adventurous little boy! He’s ALL boy and boy oh boy does he give us a run for our money with the amount he hits his head and falls trying to do ALL the things 😅😂. I’m so serious when I say this little boy is the most innocently cute and adorable little boy. He was born calm and peaceful with not much to fuss about and now a year later he still is just a simple little guy to please! We love watching him explore, grow, learn, play, and develop a relationship with his big sister Lillabee. Our hearts are overjoyed by the blessing of having this little boy in our lives!!! 🥹❤️ HAPPY BIRTHDAY to our little Sheppy boy 🎉💙 8/18 by @courtneyraeherrmann

After a lot of prayer, conviction, and anticipation, I’ve decided to use a flip phone.

Not because technology is bad. But because I’ve realized that what consistently has my attention eventually shapes my heart.

We live in a world that profits from distraction. Every notification, every endless scroll, every algorithm is designed to capture our attention and keep it. But Scripture teaches that our attention is sacred because our attention determines what we behold, and what we behold slowly transforms us.

The Bible calls us to “be sober-minded and watchful” (1 Peter 5:8). While Peter wasn’t talking about smartphones, he was talking about living with intentionality, awake to the presence of God, alert to the schemes of the enemy, and mindful of what is influencing our hearts. It’s hard to stay spiritually attentive when our minds are constantly being pulled in a hundred different directions.

I don’t want to simply consume less. I want to behold more.

More of my children while they’re still little.
More of my husband in a moment of peace.
More of the quiet whisper of the Holy Spirit.
More of God’s Word instead of the world’s endless noise.

Because in a world that profits from distraction, I want to practice attention.

I want to cultivate a heart that isn’t constantly reaching for the next thing, but is fully present for the people and the calling God has already placed in front of me. I want my life to be marked less by urgency and more by peace. Less by reaction and more by intention. Less by scrolling and more by seeking.

This isn’t about rules or legalism. It’s about where my heart is. Every day, something is yearning for our hearts. For me, I’ve realized I want Jesus *not an algorithm* to have the loudest voice in shaping my desires, my thoughts, and my time.

So if you need me, don’t worry! I’m not disappearing. You can still text me. You can still call me. I just might answer from a phone that flips instead of scrolls. 🤪

See you on the flip side. 🤩❤️

Mondays I host a craft time for some little neighbors in our BoysTown community! Some days there’s a whole huge toddler crew and some days are more lowkey. Regardless of size we craft, the kids free play while the adults chat, and we often sing a song or two together. It’s simple, it’s chill, it’s FUN! This morning we covered our craft table outside in paper, the littles did a hunt for some “nature paint brushes” and we painted with them! Sometimes the simplest things are the best. ❤️ by @courtneyraeherrmann

Happy Father’s Day to the best. We love you so much!! ❤️❤️ Can’t wait to have 10 more kids with you! 🤣🤪 (no but seriously) by @courtneyraeherrmann

This needed a permanent place in my feed 😂. There is no caption that would do this justice 😂. This girl is genuinely the biggest hoot and I love her so much!! by @courtneyraeherrmann

There is absolutely nothing better than this feeling ❤️
It’s times like these when I realize my dreams have come true and slowing down with gratitude is all that matters ❤️ by @courtneyraeherrmann

As I was scrolling through my pictures the other day, I stumbled across this one, and it absolutely lit up my heart.

Every Sunday, I take Lillabee and Shepherd off campus to church, and every week Lillabee is SO invested, SO observant, and so determined to do what everyone else is doing.

This was taken during the Good Friday service on campus with our girls. Before this service, I remember being a little worried she would get too excited, get loud, or struggle to sit through it because she normally doesn’t attend church on campus with the girls. But when I looked over and saw her praying just like everyone else—with her eyes wide open so she could make sure she was doing it exactly right—my heart absolutely fluttered. 🥹❤️

This is proof that what you pour into your children, what you surround them with, what you allow them to soak up, and what you place in their path to consume matters.

Now, I’m not talking about complete and total sheltering. Trust me when I say we’ve had to explain a LOT of things through our experiences overseas in missions, and especially now as we raise our children here at Boys Town. As Lillabee gets older, those conversations continue, and Shepherd’s turn will come soon enough too.

But I wholeheartedly believe that when parents are diligent, invested, proactive, and committed to teaching their children about God in both the biggest and the smallest moments, it matters.

The songs you listen to.

The games you play.

The way you show up at church during worship and the message.

The way you prepare your heart before church and talk about it afterward.

The way you speak about other people, even when they’re difficult, unkind, or struggling.

The way you model your life.

It all matters.

I am far from a perfect mother, and I see my imperfections reflected in my children too—which is always a humbling reminder of how important it is to stay committed, attentive, and intentional in this calling of motherhood.

And then every once in a while, God gives you a little glimpse like this—a reminder that they really are watching, listening, learning, and becoming. by @courtneyraeherrmann

Five years 🤍 May 22

Year one, we stood in a garden surrounded by the people we love, said “I do,” chased the sun on our honeymoon, and stepped into new callings… me at a church, you at a roofing company. We ended that year expecting our first baby and planning missions overseas.

Year two made us parents to our sweet girl. I stepped home with her, you transitioned out of remote missions work, and we took a leap of faith… moving to the Dominican Republic.

Year three stretched us in every way. We lived simply, walked everywhere, learned how to be parents together, and poured into ministry, church planting, serving teams, building relationships. It was beautiful and refining. Then suddenly, we were on a plane back home, facing what we thought were urgent medical concerns.

Year four was rebuilding. Unknowns, doctors, prayers, and searching for what God had next. We grieved a miscarriage, rejoiced in the life of our baby boy, and began pursuing a new lifestyle as Family Teachers at BoysTown.

Year five… we lived it. We stepped fully into this lifestyle, welcomed our son, watched our daughter flourish in every way, and learned how to love and lead teenagers we didn’t expect but were entrusted with. It was full of both deep joy and real challenges. And somehow, we made it through stronger, together.

Today, we celebrate five years in the most unconventional way by starting summer break with our BoysTown girls and our two little ones. Life looks different than we imagined years ago, but it is full, purposeful, and deeply good.

We are still on mission! Just not in the way we once pictured.

We have hit the highest highs and deepest lows together. Through the sweetest moments and the hardest seasons, we’ve held onto each other and to the Lord’s faithfulness. Something I pray we continue to do through it all!

Five years down. Forever to go.

I love you ❤️ by @courtneyraeherrmann
