"I have been working with the ceramic vessel as a painting surface for over twenty years now, and I am still interested in this three-dimensional canvas because there is always some side hidden, regardless of the vantage point. The patterning on the surface is foremost a response to the form. The imagery has changed over time in reaction to evolving interests and events in my life. Often plant life, erotics, and references to the landscape are present. It is also important to me that my work is visibly strong and durable, so that it invites touch and use. I am a craft artist; tactile experience and the potential for use are crucial to my definition of a craft object." - Paul Heroux ("Folded Vase No. 4," Paul Heroux.) @p.heroux, #maineart, #maineartist, #ceramics, #contemporaryart, #localart by @covestreetarts
As a young painter, Tom Hall was part of the 80’s and early 90’s Boston art scene. Returning to Maine, Hall set the Maine landscape as his life’s work, seeing each painting as a Maine story told. "Once I understood that there was more than a lifetime’s work ahead of me, and all of it intimately connected to the rural Maine that I grew up in and loved, well, I set to work." ("Monhegan, Gull Rock II," Tom Hall, mixed media on canvas, 46" x 46".) #tomhallpainting, #maineart, #maineartist, #mainelandscape, #contemporaryart, #localart by @covestreetarts
"My practice of minimalist reductive paintings is a form of resistance to today’s chaos, an effort to offer an aspiration, an alternative to overarching informational and materialistic chaos of visual clutter, a desire to find a structure, a sense of order to engage with meaning. A prayer for peace." - Munira Naqui ("The Long Wait," Munira Naqui, acrylic on wood, 36" x 36" x 2") @muniranaqui, #maineart, #maineartist, #contemporaryart, #localart, #minimalism by @covestreetarts
