The moment has finally arrived! We’re excited to announce the CSAD Ceramics Degree Show 2026: “Common Ground.”

Our third‑year students have poured their energy, curiosity, and craft into an extraordinary collection of work, and we can’t wait to share it with you.

“Common Ground” reflects both the shared threads and striking differences within this year’s cohort. Their practices span a rich range of ceramic techniques, materials, and contexts. What unites them is a deep, unmistakable passion for clay.

Join us for our Private View on June 12th, 5–8pm.
The exhibition then runs from June 13th, open 12–4pm on weekends and 10–6pm on weekdays, ending the June 19th

We can’t wait to welcome you. by @csad_ceramics

The #CSAD26 Master’s Show is just around the corner!

Opening : Friday 10th July 5-8pm

Cardiff Met’s Llandaff Campus

On until Tuesday 14th July. by @csad_ceramics

I am so so pleased and proud to have been awarded the Alan Barrett-Danes ‘Technical Excellence Award’ for my understanding of ceramic processes, and I am somewhat shocked to have also been awarded the ‘Highest Achieving BA Technical Report’ dissertation grade across the @cardiffmetcsad disciplines for my investigations into landscape materials in atmospheric firing techniques! I hope to unpack this material examination further in a short podcast in the coming weeks…something new? Why not.

As you can probably tell from these photographs, I am exhausted. The lead up to the show was intense, and I couldn’t have organised or delivered the ceramic degree show build without the help of @bibinataley, who has deservedly been recognised for her innovations in coffee-casting. Please check this process out, it is genius! A well-done to the rest of the cohort too!

The show-week has been great and well received. I have loved sharing my process, techniques, and alchemical understanding (as well as the physical work!) to all those who have wanted to know more. Your engagement, enthusiasm, and delight has kept me going!

A final thank you goes to my amazing tutors, technical demonstrators, and the close people who have helped guide me thus far - photographed and not! Your experience, knowledge, and generosity will not be forgotten as I take the next step. This goes for past tutors also!

A sweet moment was meeting Jeffery Jones, who’s donated leach-kick wheel was used to make this body of work. I really felt like I was kicking in his lineage. May many more pots be thrown on this beautifully crafted wheel!

Welcome to Cornwall!

Curated and ready to welcome you. This is your sneak peak!

I am starting to feel the exhibition buzz, it’s a new feeling and an exciting one!

I am very happy with how the presentation of work has all come together. Especially the image and how it directly contextualises the work, and the kinetic movement of the wheel that brings life to the process. If you catch me during the exhibition and have any questions please ask, I’d love to try my best and answer them.

5 days to go…!

We are incredibly pleased to announce that BA Ceramics graduate Toni de Jesus has had his work acquired for the permanent public collection by National Museum Wales.

His ceramic piece, Amor Perfeito, depicts pansies on a porcelain vessel. In Portugal, pansies mean perfect love. In the UK, the word has long been used as a slur.

"𝘞𝘩𝘦𝘯 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘸𝘰𝘳𝘬 𝘸𝘢𝘴 𝘧𝘪𝘳𝘴𝘵 𝘦𝘹𝘩𝘪𝘣𝘪𝘵𝘦𝘥, 𝘢𝘴 𝘪𝘵 𝘸𝘢𝘴 𝘴𝘰 𝘱𝘶𝘣𝘭𝘪𝘤-𝘧𝘢𝘤𝘪𝘯𝘨, 𝘪𝘵 𝘣𝘦𝘤𝘢𝘮𝘦 𝘢𝘯 𝘰𝘱𝘱𝘰𝘳𝘵𝘶𝘯𝘪𝘵𝘺 𝘵𝘰 𝘵𝘦𝘭𝘭 𝘮𝘺 𝘧𝘢𝘵𝘩𝘦𝘳 𝘧𝘰𝘳 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘧𝘪𝘳𝘴𝘵 𝘵𝘪𝘮𝘦 𝘵𝘩𝘢𝘵 𝘐 𝘸𝘢𝘴 𝘨𝘢𝘺. 𝘛𝘩𝘦 𝘴𝘢𝘮𝘦 𝘸𝘢𝘺 𝘸𝘦 𝘩𝘢𝘷𝘦 𝘳𝘦𝘤𝘭𝘢𝘪𝘮𝘦𝘥 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘸𝘰𝘳𝘥 '𝘲𝘶𝘦𝘦𝘳', 𝘐 𝘢𝘮 𝘳𝘦𝘤𝘭𝘢𝘪𝘮𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘸𝘰𝘳𝘥 𝘱𝘢𝘯𝘴𝘺 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘱𝘶𝘵𝘵𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘪𝘯𝘵𝘦𝘯𝘵 𝘸𝘩𝘦𝘳𝘦 𝘪𝘵 𝘳𝘦𝘢𝘭𝘭𝘺 𝘮𝘢𝘵𝘵𝘦𝘳𝘴."

Featured in Vogue USA, exhibited in New York and Venice, nominated in The Guardian's Design Highlights 2024, and now held in trust for the people of Wales.

Rydym yn hynod falch o gyhoeddi bod gwaith Toni de Jesus, graddedig BA Cerameg, wedi cael ei waith wedi'i gaffael ar gyfer y casgliad cyhoeddus parhaol gan Amgueddfa Genedlaethol Cymru.

Mae ei ddarn cerameg, Amor Perfeito, yn darlunio pansis ar lestr porslen. Ym Mhortiwgal, mae pansis yn golygu cariad perffaith. Yn y DU, mae'r gair wedi cael ei ddefnyddio ers tro fel sarhad.

“Pan arddangoswyd y gwaith gyntaf, gan ei fod yn wynebu'r cyhoedd, daeth yn gyfle i ddweud wrth fy nhad am y tro cyntaf fy mod yn hoyw. Yn yr un modd ag yr ydym wedi adennill y gair 'cwir', rwy'n adennill y gair pansi ac yn rhoi'r bwriad lle mae'n wirioneddol bwysig."

Wedi'i gynnwys yn Vogue USA, wedi'i arddangos yn Efrog Newydd a Fenis, wedi'i enwebu yn Design Highlights 2024 The Guardian, ac sydd bellach wedi'i ddal mewn ymddiriedolaeth ar gyfer pobl Cymru.

Introducing the next ceramicist of @csad_ceramics
2026 graduates, Cynan Burton

Raku fired pieces fresh from the kiln.
With this subject I wanted to keep the daily representation on predator and prey but with this design I wanted to keep a small family of rabbits, the mother figure being embedded in endurance sheltering her offspring, pressed close to her side. The surface of the mother bears marks of heat, erosion, time and allowing the material to speak as loudly as the form itself. What might read as damages becomes evidence of survival. The figure is neither idealised nor heroic it is grounded heavy and worn, its posture suggests vigilance rather than aggression, protection rather than dominance. By leaving the surface raw and uneven, I resist polish and closure.
