The Merchant Navy is beautiful. The sunsets, the oceans, the destinations and the life at sea. 🌊

But there’s another side that doesn’t make it to Instagram.

Endless emails. Vessel particulars. Machinery specifications. Repetitive information requests. Searching old emails for something you’ve already shared a dozen times.

These may look like small tasks individually, but together they create unnecessary friction in a sailor’s working day.

I believe our Captains, Chief Engineers and officers have bigger responsibilities than spending their valuable time hunting for information and repeating the same tasks.

That’s one of the reasons I built Typing Wizard — a Windows productivity tool that helps save frequently used information, expand repetitive text and access files and applications in seconds. It even works offline.

And here’s a thought for shipping companies:

Employee satisfaction isn’t just about salary. Sometimes, it’s about removing the little everyday frustrations that make work unnecessarily difficult.

Let’s give our sailors more time to do what they’re trained for — and more time to enjoy the life they signed up for.

Work smarter. Not harder.

If you’re a mariner, what’s one repetitive task you’d love to eliminate onboard?

Tag a colleague or company that needs to see this!

I spent a month building my own AI video editing workflow… then Claude started going viral for editing videos. 😅

So I put it to the test.

I wanted to automate the first cut: remove silences, delete repetitions, and cut down hours of footage without watching everything repeatedly.

My solution? Drift AI Studio.

By editing the transcript, I can remove unwanted sentences and their corresponding video segments. My rough-cut process went from around 3 hours to 30 minutes.

Claude’s first attempt wasn’t what I needed. But the experiment made me realise something important:

AI tools are powerful, but knowing the actual work helps you guide them towards the result you want.

Have you tried using Claude for video editing? How did it perform for you?

“Checks carried out as per the description and all found satisfactory.”
⚓ Marine engineers, how many times have you typed this?

Mariners synergy maritime, fleet management, Maersk, seaspan great eastern
150 PMS jobs. Weekend reporting. Repeated sentences. Machinery specifications requested by the office over and over again.

We already have enough responsibilities onboard. Why spend so much time typing the same information repeatedly?

That’s one of the reasons I built Typing Wizard — a Windows productivity tool designed to make repetitive work easier.

Here’s what it can do:

⚙️ Expand frequently used sentences with just a few keystrokes.

📋 Save machinery specifications, reports, and frequently requested information.

📁 Retrieve saved text, screenshots, images, and files in seconds.

🚀 Launch applications directly from one interface.

⌨️ Press Ctrl + Space to access your saved information through a keyboard-style interface.

And the best part? It works offline.

I believe our focus should be on doing the actual job properly, not spending unnecessary time repeating the same typing tasks.

We can’t eliminate paperwork onboard. But we can make the repetitive part easier.

Fellow mariners, what’s that one sentence you type almost every day? Let me know in the comments!
