$5000 was all I had

I dropped $5000
On a barber marketing course
Bc I was hungry
And social media taught me
That the goal was to make $$$
so I became shackled to editing
I got burnt spending hours a day editing
maybe I’m not built for charging $150
am I someone who can’t handle the program
But in the programs they all had something in common
The one thing they teach
it’s up to you!!!! You have to put in the work
why did I have to pay $5000?
Guess I’m a loser!!!!

some realizations:

I’ve seen ppl approach the same haircut in different ways. Should I take horizontal sections? Vertical? Diagonal? Pivoting? when is it really the right time to use each one? Some classes out there have taught me to think while others have just showed me step by steps. I feel thinking for ourselves, making sense of concepts and realizations on our own is kinda dying. Imagine there were no tutorials out there, what would u do? Hopefully test and try things out yourself! What’s the rush

One of of the biggest problems I always had with shear work was “How do you preserve length here, how do I keep the sideburn or fringe full? How do I preserve the nape?” Like it was some secret or sorcery that was going on. The answer was simple.

leave the hair long in that area! Duhhhh leave it alone. Keep the hair long there. I think being a person who cuts hair, I think I always have to cut hair. But leaving hair in the right places is so powerful. I’ve learned to leave alone if it’s already in the right places. Disconnection is okay!!!

I also used to over complicate sections. I feel take vertical sections overhand is so uncomfy. So I started layering all with horizontal sections. Like I am a 3d printer. Kinda like drawing to. U can draw a square only make vertical strokes, u can use only horizontal strokes. Even diagonal. Whatever makes sense to u, whatever gets u to that square.

Take it section by section. Intentional with the 3d shape u want in each section. Leave hair where u want hair to stay full. Usually at the perimeters. Voila. Sorry if ur more confused now hahahaha by @cutzbychristian

this is not the right way

it doesn’t matter
the order of guards I use
what matters is
is the placement of shades I want
in the right areas
I could start at the top
Dey call it blending down
start at the bottom
Dey call it blending up
shi I can even start in the middle
set my middle shade first
what shade do I want where
everyone’s shade is different
Everyone has different #s
For different shades
0 is the exception

my best fades come out when…

I keep these 3 ideas in mind while cutting

the first is light pressure - I’ve noticed when I’ve gotten haircuts the best tapers and fades I’ve recieved were from barbers with the light hands. The barbers that are barely touching my scalp. I’ve noticed I over work when I apply too much pressure. Unnecessary pressure. I chunk holes, go shorter than I need to bc of heavy pressure. I’ve realized with every tool I use, just barely touching the scalp is enough. If u want a 00000 use a foil, 000 trimmer, 0 closed clipper. It’s like trying to use a #2 guard to blend out a 1.5 line by digging into the skull lmao like why? I notice fades come out more effortlessly when I’m light handed. Let the tools do the work! Nothing more nothing less

the second idea is that it doesn’t matter what guard i am using. The number I’m use isn’t important. What is important is my ability to read shade. My ability to control the spread. The top (dark part of my fade) could be anything between a #1.5 and #4. What’s important is I recognize what dark shade is according to their hair texture. 0 line will always b 0 line. What important is recognizing how u will get from the 0 to the top of your fade (whatever # that may be) u can freehand a fade if u want. All a guard does is control spacing between the clipper and the skin. U can do that without guard. U might just have to be carefulmaxxing

The third (prolly most important to me) is pace and length of clipper strokes - actually being aware of my movements. staying in your designated areas. The goal is to touch each hair once. Not point in grazing the head like your grating cheese on a cheese grater ovr and ovr lol. I’ve found it so helpful slowing down the pace of my clipper movements to see and hear what is really being cut. I’ve also realized as you move down in the fade, my vertical movement become shorter and detailed. Worst thing I can do is bring a short length, like a 0.5, into my 1 or 2 guard zone. Boom, hole in my fade now🥲 if u have a 1 guard on, stay near the 1 guard area. Going beyond my frick u. Da point of this point is intention n accuracy by @cutzbychristian

One of these 6 workouts per day

Pull-ups
Dips
Split squat or bulgarians
Push up
Australian row
Any hip hinge (rdls or deadlifts)

All these movements have many variations feel free to try em all!
4 sets of going to failure
A lot of rest between sets (at least 2-5mins)

last rep should be absolute struggle

Workout shouldn’t take more than 30 mins

Of course training core/cardio on other days however u like

I do this for convenience. They can be done anywhere, unlimited progressions (w added weight), simple with no need to overthink exercise by @cutzbychristian

people forget:

this was actually kinda challenging lol

Connecting and blending and piecing the buzz to the back was a bit tricky. I just cut it with the mind from of a sculptor choppy

I feel ppl talk about “which haircut fits my head shape” I feel like u can get whatever style u want, it doesn’t matter. Forward, back, mullet, short. I’ve tried so many hairstyles and tbh I’ve loved them all. I think the thing ppl forget is that you can rock whatever tf u want!!!

don’t fall into the trap of following the crowd where “this” looks good, this looks “bad”, this is nice or ugly. It’s all up to u. It just comes down to how confident u are. Like r u bold enough for the micro bangs? If not, it’s okay do u do what u like.

So tbh I struggle when ppl ask what would look good on me? I think u can rock anything lol it’s all really up to how confident u are. If max confident I can f u up and you’ll still look good lmao

I’m a terrible stylist don’t trust my opinion

it’s like going to a restaurant n then server asks what u want and then u say idk so then the server is like 🧍🏻 Then they ask well what do u like? Then u say idk then a clown comes outta nowhere and pies u in the face by @cutzbychristian

I was stuck at 8k for 2 years
What’s the reason i even want more followers?
to look cool? to get more likes?
More followers is a higher likelihood of someone landing in my chair
A bigger chance I can help someone
Whether it’s a haircut or
a new perspective w a growth mindset
An opportunity to provide value
so I can spend my time
doing things I love and want
so I can help
myself
my family, my future family, my friends
anyone really

Rather than focusing on likes I started to focus on how I could help someone. Not focusing on likes, but how many shares and saves I was getting. Like some ppl really stopped on my video to share and/or save it. It means I provided some sort of value. Whether it was teaching how to cut, providing a laugh, providing inspo. What’s a reason for someone to stop and take the extra time to save and share? That is the problem to solve

I started focusing on sharing what I know. Of course with showmanship. I was focused what I would tell the young me. Bc I know there are some out there going thru the same things I did. How can I help the less experienced me? How can I help the future me as well?

When someone visits my page, what do they remember? Is my page worth a follow? What resonated with them. I hope to leave an impact where ppl realize they are in control of their world. It’s easy for other pages to make u actually feel like you’re not good enough. Pages that come off as I’m better than u. That’s prolly a problem I need to work on my own T.T

I want it to be a place where ppl are inspired to do themselves. To realize that we have the now regardless of your past. Growth is inevitable, to stay patient. That u can materialize those ideas you see in your head. let the ideas fly!!!

I feel it can be redundant saying the same message over again but I think that’s what important. If I’m able to help just one person, I’ll consider it success.

these reflections I type out have been proof to me that spellchecking doesn’t matter. Grammar doesn’t matter It doesn’t matter what kind of camera u use. It’s about getting a message across. A meaningful one that someone resonates w. thats what I noticed like minded by @cutzbychristian
