If a para athlete has ever moved you at the Commonwealth Games, Judy Kent helped open that door. Congratulations to Judy, our former President and Chef de Mission for Victoria 1994, on being invested as a Member of the Order of Canada (@governorgeneralcanada) on October 2. She advocated for athletes with a disability to be included in the Commonwealth Games, which led to demonstration events at the 1994 Games and full medal events in 2002. Thank you for everything, Judy. by @cwthsportcan
This is what top five in the world looks like. Lachlan McNeil, our Commonwealth Games silver medallist from Birmingham 2022, just wrapped up an incredible run at the World Wrestling Championships in Astana, Kazakhstan, finishing 5th at 70 kg. "It gives everyone something to believe in collectively in that moment." 🫶 That's Etta Love on why sport matters, and honestly, we couldn't have said it better. The Saskatoon weightlifter is a 2024 World Youth champion who took home bronze at her very first Commonwealth Games in Glasgow. 🏋️‍♀️ Throughout the Games, she kept coming back to how important sport is because it brings people together. Give this interview from the 2026 Commonwealth Games a listen as she shares what weightlifting has given her, from staying connected to her younger self to trusting her future self. Thank you for sharing this with us, Etta. ❤️ by @cwthsportcan

"Focus on the game plan. It's going to work. It's going to happen." That's what Julien Frascadore told himself between every sequence of the men's -66 kg gold medal final in Glasgow. Up against Cyprus's Georgios Balarjishvili, the defending champion, regulation ended level and it went to golden score. Just over a minute in, Julien saw his opening and finished it with a hold-down. And it happened! Commonwealth gold on his Games debut! Two days later, he carried the Maple Leaf into the Closing Ceremony as Team Canada's flag bearer. 📸 Cover Image: Antoine Saito by @cwthsportcan
Today is the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation. We honour the children who never came home, the Survivors of residential schools, and their families and communities. Reconciliation is ongoing work, and sport has a role to play. In February 2025, Commonwealth Sport Canada became the first national Commonwealth Games association to sign the Commonwealth Sport Lekwungen Declaration on Reconciliation and Partnership with Indigenous Peoples. Led by former Six Nations Chief Ava Hill, the Declaration was drafted by an international working group of experts, sport practitioners, and Indigenous leaders. Signatories commit to engaging in a process of developing the path forward for Indigenous participation in sport by respecting, protecting, and promoting their rights and opportunities. We invite Canada's national, provincial, and territorial sport organizations to become signatories. Click the link in our bio to read more about the Declaration _____ Aujourd'hui, c'est la Journée nationale de la vérité et de la réconciliation. National Coaches Week ends today, and one of the best examples we have of coaches investing in coaches is our Commonwealth Women Coach Internship Program. Now in its third year, WCIP pairs six intern coaches with six mentor coaches across multiple sports. The mentors have coached at the Olympic, Paralympic, Commonwealth Games and world championship levels, and they're passing that experience straight to the next generation of Canadian coaches. That's the whole idea behind Coaches Week. Thank you to every coach and mentor building what comes next for Canadian sport. More on the program by clicking the link in our bio. #ThanksCoach | #NationalCoachesWeek by @cwthsportcan

Vincent Auclair took over as Boxing Canada's National Team Head Coach in the fall of 2022. Under his leadership, Wyatt Sanford stepped onto the podium at the Paris 2024 Olympics, Canada's first Olympic boxing medal since the 1996 Atlanta Games. At the 2026 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, Auclair coached a Team Canada boxing squad that brought home four medals. Scarlett Delgado and Marie Al-Ahmadieh both took silver. Joshua Ofori and Amber-Jane Wall claimed bronze. This Coaches Week, thank you Vincent for the years of work behind every one of those results. #ThanksCoach #NationalCoachesWeek by @cwthsportcan
