Beyond excited to announce the Return to Roots retreat at @theshantispace in Portugal, Oct 6-10 🌞 Comment “ROOTS” and I’ll send you all the details!

This retreat is your invitation to unplug from the outside world, dive deep into movement and breath, and reconnect with what makes you feel alive - through yoga, adventure, community, and of course... nature.

Here’s what’s waiting for us:

🧘🏼‍♀️ daily yoga, pranayama & meditation practice
🪶 evening yin & yoga nidra
🥑 nutrient dense, farm-to-table meals
🌺 heart-opening ceremonies
🐚 nature immersion + excursions
🌀 somatic movement + yoga philosophy workshops
🤲🏼 deep connection to self + aligned community
🩵 inner work, rituals + energy clearing practices
+ so much more!!

These days are about REAL connection. With yourself, your practice, the world around + within you in a way that leaves you transformed. If you feel the pull, you’re already part of it.

Cheers to adventure, life force, and memories that last a lifetime 🤗 by @dafnaflows

my love language is being able to wiggle on a deck in the woods with the rest of the forest creatures 🧚🏻‍♂️💫🌀

does anyone else get hyper fixated on a posture for some time and ends up practicing it every day? anyway, im currently constantly in visvamitrasana - i wonder what the next hyper fixation will be for me 🥹

I took a moment to reminisce on the absolute dream that was our week in Portugal..
this was filmed right in the middle of the retreat, I had some time in my day to move around on my own, with my own breath and cadence, listening to the nature all around me
it’s the little things, ya know?

so I’m just here basking in all the goodness that we’ve got comin up around the corner 👀

Since I’ve been home, a lot of people have asked me, “so, how was it??”
More often than not, my response is “it was amazing!”
Because, how do I even begin to describe how it feels?

You start a retreat, most of the people in the retreat don’t know you or each other very well..
There is the slightest tension in the air as people are still feeling things out for themselves and finding their footing within the group dynamic.
As I sit, I observe everyone in the group, listen intently as each person shares their intention or whatever brought them to the very moment we are in.

With each activity, practice, and circle, the tension softens. The layers peel back and the guards come down, there is a lightness.
There is a permission to simply be, to allow the parts of you to reveal themselves.
You may surprise yourself with what and who comes up in your mind when you get quiet enough.

And that’s what I’m there for. To bear witness to whatever one’s experience is. To be the pair of eyes that sees them as they are, to be the guiding hand to walk them across the seemingly scary field that is one’s mind.

We are all afraid of getting out of our comfort zone, we are all uncomfortable with getting quiet.

So, how is it? Guiding and leading retreats?
It is everything.
It is creating space for compassion, kindness, holding a container for other to simply be as they are.

Thank you to the most perfect group of humans that joined us in the unforgettable week that we just shared 🫶🏼🦋
Thank you to my beautiful co-teacher @yogigyle , the yang to my yin
To many many more containers of light, joy, and FUN 💫💗🤸🏻 by @dafnaflows

some glimmers from our second week of training ✨

didn’t capture as much, was at that point even more so immersed in the present and taking it all in.
it’s a combination of the moments in training, and the moments in between, deep reflection and introspection, as well as the simple moments of laughter and joy - it’s all a part 🌀

in the last guided practice that I led we explored a mandala flow and what mandalas represent.
in tibetan buddhism, monks spend days and weeks meticulously laying brightly colored sand in these gorgeously vibrant geometric maps.
once that final grain of sand is laid, the monks don’t frame it - they say a prayer, and sweep the mandala away.

this practice celebrates the beauty of the one certainty in this life - impermanence.

we all have the tendency and desire to hold on tight to experiences and memories, meanwhile we are placing importance on the one thing that won’t last forever.
you see, the beauty of the sand mandala, wasn’t in its permanence. but rather, in the doing.
the effort, the precision, the dedication.

the beauty was in the presence it demanded of you while you were building it. sweeping it away doesn’t diminish its value; it honors it. freeing the energy of your practice so it can move out into the rest of the world.

embrace the inevitable impermanence, allow that to be the thing that encourages you to build, without expectation or anticipation. 💞 by @dafnaflows

what a week.. 💫
it’s really amazing how you show up as complete strangers, and within a matter of hours you start to peel the layers, and dive in..

I love the mountains, they remind us how small we are in comparison to this giant earth, they’re humbling - something us humans need sometimes, to be humbled

I couldn’t have asked for a better location and group to explore the depths of human consciousness, ask the big question of what we’re all doing here (what even is life?!), and dive into the intricacies of this practice with 🪐

@kootenay.yoga.school thank you for trusting me 💞
I’m excited for what’s left of this training, and what the future holds 📿

in the mean time, I leave these sweet moments here ✨🌸

days 2 + 3 📿
been deep in the exploration of the roots of this practice, its history, and how we’ve gotten to where we are today
setting a foundation for the practice and techniques so we can understand the why behind the action 🪐

what an absolute honor it is to share the little bit of knowledge I’ve acquired in my time as a teacher, grateful to have the privilege of guiding and witnessing the start of a new chapter in one’s personal practice ✨

to many more… 💞🌸

Most days, my practice looks like this: pranayama, because it sets my nervous system before my brain has a chance to spiral. A few minutes of just sitting, watching what my mind does when I stop feeding it something to react to. Noticing when I’m distracted and observing, instead of leaning into distraction

The Hatha Yoga Pradipika is pretty blunt about it: the physical practice exists to prepare the body to sit still long enough to actually do the real work, steadying the mind. The poses were never supposed to be the destination.

If all you do today is sit with your breath and observe the fluctuations of your mind, that’s a yoga practice.
