Happy 50 years around the sun my Love (though we’re celebrating 3 months early) 🥳

My man absolutely deserves this, as bizarre and as odd as it is…I love the way you Dad and all of us are so lucky to have someone so adventurous, funny, goofy and hardworking as yourself. 🙌🏼
Here’s to another epic filled year with you 🥰 taken in Da Nang, Vietnam by @thecurrentplace

Whanau like the Taylor’s represent everything that is right in Aotearoa. The narrative at the moment here in New Zealand is racial division. I hear it on main stream and social media but my own eyes and ears show me that raciest are the minority and pushed by our current government. The Taylor’s represent the true truth. The overwhelming majority of us all have nothing but love and respect for each other. Pakeha papa, Maori mama makes beautiful tamariki and moko. It’s the young that heal the past and make the future for us all harmonious.

Kia Ora Taylor whanau and every other whanau who represent the goodness of us, the majority

My very first camera ever was an Olympus OM-10 given to me by an epic good human back in high school. Mum said I couldn’t have it. I was cut to say the least. Photography was the only class I had dreamed of taking.
The epic human who gave me my Olympus did something diabolical that changed my life for ever.
Rest of the story to come in a future post.

All these photos have been shot in some kind of moving vehicle. The @omsystem.cameras in this case the #om3 is perfect for what I call “DRIVE BYs”. Fast easy shutter and aperture controls and super fast auto focus is a perfect system.

Thanks @ohh_nello

The less control the better. “Drive Bys” are shots taken from any moving vehicle. Car, Bus Train Truck, Boat or Aunties SUV. The only control I need is easy control over shutter and aperture and super fast auto focus. The rest I leave up to the photography Gods. OM System, OM-3

I am truly astonished at what can be captured with nothing more than an iPhone. Inconspicuous, unthreatening and acceptable.

This is one part of my mahi that makes my wairua swell and lets me know I’m doing what I’m supposed to do. An unsigned, beautiful Māori mama who lives and loves Papatūānuku. @ellyproctor is wearing kākahu (clothing) from @kirinathan , whose kaupapa also centres on respect for Papatūānuku and for us as humans. Whenever I may question my own resolve and belief that we are all responsible for the ultimate whare nui we all call home, I’m reminded by good humans that it’s worth staying positive — even though a handful of people just want to ruin it for us all. I believe in good, even though it’s a struggle at times.

Aroha nui D

The more I observe,
the more I see love.
The more I see pride.
The more I see honour.
The less I see reason for anger.
The less I see space for division.
The less fear I hold for our culture.
It’s not the politicians or big corporations
who get to decide our peace,
or place limits on our knowledge.
It begins in our own homes —
where honour and self-pride should radiate.
That nucleus starts within ourselves,
and that gift comes from us, mums, dads, nanas, and grandads.
Respect and kindness for others —
that’s where ugly loses and togetherness has true power.

Ps
It was hard not to include Māori kupu in here. I wanted there to be no excuse for anyone to not read this. taken in Aotearoa by @thecurrentplace

It’s a very exciting time here in the whanau homestead in Pipiwai. Renovations, birthday celebrations and time together. My son and his beautiful wahine is only days away to giving me a 3rd moko, a third nephew a third son a third reason why life is full of love. Watching do family life is testament that no matter what crap life decides to throw at me, I can just stop, watch and enjoy what is my whanau.

When I first used Ai it was virtually impossible to create a Māori / Polynesian face. It’s still not that good but getting closer. The exploration of this form is exciting and daunting at the same time. I have no idea where I’m taking any of this for the moment. I am having fun seeing what me and Ai can do and that’s good enough for now. by @thecurrentplace

I feel like we’re all being played. Yes, history was tough for Māori—there’s no denying it. But the present? It’s full of light, aroha, knowledge, and mana. Everywhere I look, I see Māori and Pākehā thriving together, beautifully.
Our mixed tamariki, our mokopuna, our young whānau—they are the future. Their innocence breaks down old walls, their presence shifts outdated prejudice. The old disdain is fading, replaced by love and understanding.
These little ones are proof of what we can be: united, strong, and vibrant. They are the key to a future where all who call Aotearoa home can truly prosper, together.
Don’t be fooled by a hand full of greedy greasy politicians who don’t give a shit about you.

It’s not about race. by @thecurrentplace
