homecoming recap 🐅 by @damtre
As I approach the completion of my Education Specialist (Ed.S.) degree in School Psychology at the University of Washington, I want to pause and reflect on the milestones that have shaped my journey since relocating to Seattle in 2023. ✨ Highlights from the past two years: • Transitioned from serving as a Licensed Professional School Counselor in Nashville to Washington, earning my Mental Health Counselor Associate (LMHCA) credential and expanding my clinical scope. • Nearing the completion of a full-time School Psychology internship with Seattle Public Schools, supporting students, families, and school systems. • Participated in a 4-week international cultural immersion program in Ecuador with Dr. Anton Robert Berzins and the Ecuadorian Professional Psychology Program (EPPP), deepening my understanding of cross-cultural psychology, global mental health practices, and culturally responsive assessment and intervention. • Conducted mixed-methods research with the UW Math Department (Tacoma) examining how students navigate online learning aids, with findings presented at the 2024 and 2025 Mathematical Association of America conferences in Alaska, Tacoma, and San Francisco. • Engaged in healing, wellness, and community through Boyz N The Wood, a nationally recognized health equity initiative, including restorative experiences in the North Cascades. • Completed Field Study Practica with Everett School District and Seattle Public Schools, with a strong focus on equity, inclusion, and systems-level impact. • Completed a clinical practicum at the UW School Psychology Clinic, strengthening assessment and intervention skills. • Served as a Teaching Assistant in the UW College of Education, supporting undergraduate courses ranging from Applied Child Development to The Political Philosophy of Education. • Proud to be presenting at the 2026 National Association of School Psychologists (NASP) Convention. My presentation, “Understanding Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI) in Children and Adolescents,” highlights the importance of early identification, classroom-based supports, and long-term recovery planning. Soon, I will join less than 1% of Black School Psychologists ! by @damtre
