I did a reverse tie dye on a few shirts and some old slip ons.

The origins of original tie dye come from the transient community in the early 60’s. In a position of not being able to afford patterned sheets, shirts, jackets etc. but wanting color and pattern in the home, they would take to tie dying their plain and old belongings.

This is the truth about most culture, that it comes from the bottom up. It’s only when those with money see they can make a profit that it enters the mainstream.
