Jewish mom and educator living in Munich
My thoughts, my kitchen, my home

POSTS STORIES REELS

Every evening, after the kids are asleep, we sit on the bench outside our building.
And talk about our day.
I usually look around us, searching for that second look people give his kippah.
But when he sees me do that, he shares.

The man who stopped him to say he was glad to see a Jew walking freely in Munich.

The stranger who asked if it's safe to wear a kippah here, and then pulled one out of his pocket and put it on.

The man who said: I'm Jewish too. I'd never do what you're doing.

There are other moments too. People who shout things from across the street, make certain gestures. I don't know what they think they'll accomplish.
They picked the wrong guy.

I don't know if I would wear a kippah if I were him. But I'm glad this reality exists too.
Honestly?
A little jealous.
Mostly just proud.

There are a lot of new faces here lately. So hi!
It felt like time I properly introduced myself.
And now that you know me a little better, where in the world are you from? How is it like living your jewish life there?

There's a kosher restaurant in Prague I've been wanting to come back to since my last visit. @mizlalaprague , you did not disappoint. @kkochmann , you're the reason this reel has zero eating shots and I'd do it again.

I came home after 8 days, and at first everything looked so clean. Then I started noticing the unusual things, and there are more of them than made it into this post.

Part of my work as a Jewish educator is traveling, and I love it. I get to meet such interesting communities, people and traditions.
Then I come home and discover my family has started a few traditions of their own while I was gone.

Anyone want to help me solve this?

A little taste of Hungarian Jewish history, served with a generous helping of fried onions! 🇭🇺❤️

Meet Pletzlach: noodles tossed with golden, caramelized onions, the kind of simple, comforting dish that has been bringing families around the table for generations.

As Mazman explores Budapest and its extraordinary Jewish heritage, we’re making room at the table for the recipes that tell their own stories. The ones passed between generations, lovingly recreated, and best enjoyed with a second helping.

A huge thank you to the wonderful @daniellechaimovitz for bringing this delicious piece of Jewish culinary tradition to life! ✨ by @daniellechaimovitz

This is your reminder to use Halloween to plan your Purim costume.
I use it for ideas, and if I find something I want, or there's already something I want, I buy it right after Halloween, when everything goes on sale.

Any guesses what this year's costume will be?

Every time I come to Israel there's a reason.
Sometimes it's a simcha, sometimes it's work, and this time I flew in to vote.
But it really doesn't matter why I'm here, because my first stop never changes, and it's a Milky. 🫣

What's the first thing you eat when you land in Israel?

I forgot how much I missed Israeli election day.
People here are actually wishing each other chag bchirot sameach, happy election holiday, and when you live abroad, being part of it is not an everyday thing. Somehow even the stranger outside the polls who asked who I'm voting for and then tried to convince me otherwise felt like part of it.
I told her we all want what's best for this country, and at least on that, we can agree.

Could you imagine this happening where you live?

I wasn't expecting so many people to argue in my comment section about whether I have the right to vote in the Israeli election, since I currently live in Germany.
For me it was never really a question. I decided pretty much the minute they announced the election date, and yes, flights to Israel right now are not cheap and this trip is really not convenient, so trust me, nobody gets on this plane lightly.
I'm on it anyway, and looking around this airport, I'm clearly not the only one.
If you're flying home to vote too, I'd love to know where you're flying in from.

After everything that's happened in the last few years, not using my right to vote just isn't an option for me.
I'll make any effort to do it, including flying to Israel for 48 hours just to cast my ballot, in hope of a better future for my homeland, my children, and the Jews, wherever we are.

When you live far from family, every visit turns into a delivery, and my parents take the job very seriously.
Most of it will be eaten.
The tallit is staying, and now we have some big decisions to make before the bar mitzvah.
What's on your list when someone from home comes to visit?
