Learn the language of basketball.

Today’s Basketball Explainer looks at Pistol, a three player action that starts with a guard to guard handoff and flows into a pick and roll.

Whether you’re a coach, player or fan, understanding the terminology helps you see the game differently.

The road trip begins.

I'm excited to be travelling across Ireland with the support of my partners, @oncesport11 and @the_hoops_geek , bringing learning opportunities to coaches around the country.

Our first stop is the @danielnelsoncoaching Classroom Series with @lukethompsontv , Scouting Coordinator with the Denver Nuggets.

Luke's session, Building Winning Rosters: From Scouting to Roster Construction will give coaches practical insights into player evaluation, scouting and roster construction from one of the best in the game.

A big thank you to @ucdmarianbc for hosting our first event.

This is only the beginning. Looking forward to seeing coaches on the road over the coming weeks.

Pick & Roll: Ball Handler Reject

The ball handler calls for the pick and roll. As the screener sets the screen going right, the defence prepares to contain in that direction.

Instead, the ball handler rejects the screen and attacks left, breaking the defensive coverage, creating a 3v2 and forcing the defence to rotate.

Featuring Nigel Hawkins. @nh0wk 2x @fibaeuropecup player of the week 25/26

More basketball terminology and tactical explainers to come as part of the DNC Basketball x Once Sport collaboration.

Back home in Ireland 🇮🇪☘️

A brilliant trip to Kilkenny, combining two things I love: basketball and getting to experience more of Ireland. It’s easy to forget sometimes just how beautiful this country is. The scenery, history and people make travelling around Ireland pretty special.

A huge thank you to @kilkennystarsbasketball for inviting me and giving me the opportunity to work with their players and coaches. Really enjoyed sharing ideas, talking basketball and spending time in the gym with everyone.

Thanks also to @basketball_ireland for their continued support of coach development and to @oncesport11 and @the_hoops_geek for supporting @danielnelsoncoaching and helping me continue to create and share basketball education.

More from the Ireland trip coming soon. 🇮🇪🏀

One of the best things about being out on the bike is that you’re not on the basketball court.

It gives you time to step away, clear your head and think.

Working and coaching abroad also gives you an opportunity to really get to know the country you’re living in. Not just the cities and basketball arenas, but the roads, villages, history and places you’d otherwise never see.

Cycling around Cyprus has given me the chance to explore the country properly, while creating the space to reflect on the season gone and start thinking about the one ahead.

Sometimes stepping away is part of moving forward.
