What an absolute blessing of a morning. Never could we have ever prayed up a better opening morning. Everytime I come to hunt I’d love to fill my tag as early as possible to be able to go hunt with other friends and have more free time not roosting birds and scouting.
Sylvan and me had a great hunt together 5 years ago and hadn’t gotten to hunt together hardly at all the since that season. We wanted to make it our goal to atleast hunt together this spring regardless of if we got one or not. He’s one of my best friends and mainly because of his spiritual support I know I can always ask him for prayers and to encourage me and we tell hunting stories often too. We had a fun evening roosting 4 gobblers before the opener and got on them in the morning with a crazy encounter involving around 15 turkeys and some coyotes. Lo and behold the coyotes helped us out and he was blessed to fill his tag at 6:25. Took some beautiful pictures with the sunrise and took our time admiring the bird, the land, the hunt, and our blessings together and slowly made our way out of the woods.

About the time we made it to the truck a family friend who owns land I was practically raised riding atv’s on sent me a picture of a hen behind their place and we thought, were only 3 minutes away we might as well go call once just to try. I’ve never hunted there before but didn’t want to cut any corners so we walked down the property and let a soft cluck and purr out just to be cut off by a gobbler 100 yards away. From that time on the hunt took about 6 minutes. Sylvan over my shoulder the whole time filming and getting to run around on the old stomping grounds. This turkey was FIRED UP and did it how you always wish they would. The season has not gone that way but time spent in the woods it’s bound to happen, and I’m thankful I was there for it.

Psalm 37:4
“Take delight in the Lord, and he will give you the desires of your heart”

This verse was on my mind and often stays on my mind as I genuinely wonder why I’ve been so blessed. I deserve nothing, but God’s given me everything I need and abundantly more. This isn’t a prosperity Gospel, our God isn’t genie in a bottle, not everything goes as planned, and following God’s plan doesn’t guarantee riches health and an easy road here on Earth but it guarantees something. That if your faith is put in Jesus as Lord, he will deliver you from death. This promise is what brings me joy and blessings. Every. Single. Day. Everyday is a blessing and the people God has placed in my life make it fun, supportive, and loving.

These are some mounts Pap and me have worked on and they bring me a smile to see something we’ve accomplished together, but the real joy is fellowship with a believer and friend.

One more Turkey post

This has been a long time coming. Nate and me have been hunting every chance he gets the last 5 years but have never been able to get a Turkey. There were close encounters when he had to leave a gobbling Turkey to make it to school, and hot mosquito days that we heard nothing. But today it happened. All the times we walked out empty handed together faded away and it made this moment even sweeter, as he said it, the “bad” hunts or seeing how difficult they can be to trick makes it mean more when it finally happened. We chased them all over this morning, watched birds strut out of range, heard more gobbles than I’ve ever heard in a morning, and it all happened when least expected. They closed 200+ yards in a matter of a few minutes and thankfully gave us a gobble before cresting the ridge. Within 30 seconds of sitting down they came strutting over the ridge and the rest is history.

Just wanted to hop on here and say how much of a blessing this spring has been so far. I have a goal of filling one of my Georgia tags on public land that still has not happened but I was blessed the other week to get permission on private ground and take a bird, a great hunt that took 9.61 miles of searching. So far this season has consisted of stubborn turkeys on the same piece of public I’ve been hunting the past year, but so so so many positives. Whether it’s been weekends tagging along with friends, taking young hunters, or truck camping I wouldn’t change a second of it. Still a couple hunts left to go.
I’m blessed… This turkey hunting thing is fun but in the grand scheme of it all this is nothing compared to what I’ll experience in eternity one day. Don’t lose sight that there’s a decision more important than where your next hunt will be, and that’s where your faith lies. The Lord is good taken in Georgia by @abbie_shoch_594

Wow.. what an amazing hunting season. All I can say is I’m blessed. Got to hunt some of my favorite places again and with some amazing people. I got to watch my fiancé shoot her first buck and take some youth hunters to the woods. I got to watch lots of bucks walk within bow range, mallards come in at day break, and get my butt whooped by public land turkeys. Wouldn’t have changed this season in anyway. I’m thankful for the car rides calling my buddies and Pap to tell stories, but most importantly I’m thankful that every hunt I was reminded by my Lord to give thanks for these moments because they’re not promised. I just want to say how proud I am of my girl and show her off. She started the last year towards her degree today and will have finished in 3 years come spring. You’re the hardest working and most beautiful girl I’ve ever laid eyes on. More importantly, I’m most proud that you and your friends are spreading the name of Jesus on campus. This season has been filled with a lot of ups and downs, but with the right perspective they were all ups. From being within gun range multiple times on public land and the turkey just not poking its head over the hill, spooking one as I accidentally sat right under his roost tree, leaving for work with a long beard 60 yards in front still in the tree, but at the end of the day there was lots of lessons learned and lots of turkeys chased.
I was reluctant to knock on a land owners door after getting no’s the entire season, but I finally got a yes, I got one roosted, I said a prayer, and then had a successful hunt.
