Empowering Black and Brown women in Data and AI through mentorship.
POSTS STORIES REELS
Hello, November! ๐Ÿ’œ๐Ÿงก A new month brings new possibilities, fresh perspectives and more opportunities to grow. As the world of data and AI continues to evolve, we're excited about the possibilities ahead for African women building their paths in technology. Here's to more learning, meaningful connections, shared opportunities and women making their mark in the industry. Happy New Month from all of us at DataHER Africa! Building pathways. Creating opportunities. Growing women in data and technology. by @dataherafrica
Is gender equality in data and AI a reality, or are we still talking about it more than we're practising it? In 2025, women accounted for just 26% of AI hires, according to LinkedIn research. The gap raises important questions about access to opportunities, mentorship, and career progression. If AI is shaping everyone's future, shouldn't women have an equal opportunity to shape it? At DataHER Africa, we're committed to building pathways and creating opportunities for women in data and technology. ๐Ÿ’œ What's your take? Is the playing field becoming more equal, or do we still have work to do? by @dataherafrica
Happy National Mentoring Day! ๐Ÿ’œ @nationalmentoringday Today, we celebrate the beautiful thing that happens when we share what we know, learn from one another, and make room for others to grow. In honour of today, our mentees have written heartfelt letters to their mentors. ๐Ÿฅน Swipe through to read their sweet words! ๐Ÿ’Œ In honour of National Mentoring Day, and in collaboration with DataHER Africa, I'd like to share an open letter to my mentor, Teresia. ๐Ÿ’œ Dear Mentor, Teresia Mbagathi. I'm grateful for your time, your guidance, and the valuable sessions we had during the mentorship programme. I'm currently putting into practice the things I learned from the programme. I'm building my personal brand and visibility, working towards the goals I wrote down at the beginning of the programme, and networking with other professionals. I'm also grateful that you always made time to answer my questions, even when they were sometimes not related to the topic of the session. Thank you for always being willing to share your knowledge and offer guidance. And one thing I want you to know is that whenever you commend me for something I've done, it means a lot to me. Sometimes, you might not even realise how much your words mean to me, but they really do. Thank you for your time, your encouragement, and the opportunity to learn from you. I'm grateful for everything I took away from this experience, and I'm making sure I'm not just keeping the lessons but actually putting them to use. Thank you for being part of my journey. Your mentee, Victoria. ๐Ÿ’Œโค๏ธ ๐Ÿ’œ AN OPEN THANK-YOU LETTER TO MY HIGHLY ESTEEMED MENTOR, JAYSHREE MALLAYA @mysticsistersjayshree Mentor of the Year | An Icon of Love, Courage, Growth and Inspiration Dear Jay, โค๏ธ๐ŸŒน Your impact on my life has exceeded the outline of mentorship. In the short time we have been connected, you have become a mentor, a friend, a sister, and a mother figure to me. When your health challenge showed up, my heart wanted us to stop. But you insisted on continuing because you wanted to see me grow and become the best I could be. Even while navigating your own challenges, you continued believing in my future. Jay, you ha by @dataherafrica
Tomorrow is National Mentoring Day! ๐Ÿ’œ And we have a little challenge for you. Don't just celebrate mentorship. Make someone feel the difference they've made in your life. ๐Ÿ’œ For mentors: โ†’ Remind your mentee how far they've come. โ†’ Celebrate their recent wins. โ†’ Connect them to an opportunity. โ†’ Check in on them beyond their career goals. ๐Ÿ’œ For mentees: โ†’ Tell your mentor what their guidance means to you. โ†’ Share a milestone you've achieved using their advice. โ†’ Check in on them, too! โ†’ Put their advice into action and let them see the difference they've made. Mentorship goes beyond scheduled sessions and career advice. It's about showing up, celebrating progress, and making people feel seen. At DataHER Africa, mentorship is at the heart of what we do. ๐Ÿ’œ And tomorrow, we're bringing you something special to celebrate the occasion! Stay tuned. You won't want to miss this! #DataHERAfrica #NationalMentoringDay #Mentorship #WomenInData #WomenInTech by @dataherafrica
You don't always need a mentor who's ahead of you. Sometimes, you need one who's right beside you. ๐Ÿ’œ We often talk about learning from people with more experience, but what about the people growing alongside us? The friend learning Python with you. The colleague exploring AI. The fellow data enthusiast who shares a resource that changes how you approach a problem. They may not have years of experience, but there's still so much you can learn from each other. Peer mentorship reminds us that growth doesn't always happen vertically. Sometimes, it happens sideways. You share knowledge, challenge each other, exchange opportunities, and become better together. After all, iron sharpens iron. How are you intentionally growing with your peers? #DataHERAfrica #PeerMentorship #WomenInData #WomenInTech by @dataherafrica
What do you do when you realise your experience can solve a problem you keep seeing? For Omotola Kuku, the answer has been simple: build. ๐Ÿ’ก Over the years, she has worked across different functions, industries, and countries. Along the way, she noticed a recurring problem: talented people with great ideas who sometimes struggled to turn them into something sustainable. Instead of simply observing, she decided to create solutions. Today, that decision has grown into multiple ventures, including IntelliScale, ReliAssist, AccountabilityWithTola, and the Build with AI Lab. And the recognition has followed! โœจ From earning the UK Global Talent endorsement in Digital Technology to being named a TechWomen100 2026 award recipient, Omotola's journey reflects what can happen when you turn experience into action. Her story reminds us that impact doesn't always begin with a grand plan. Sometimes, it starts with noticing a problem and deciding to do something about it. ๐Ÿ’œ This month, we're proud to shine the DataHER Africa Spotlight on Omotola Kuku! Now, we'd love to hear from you: ๐Ÿ’ญ What problem have you noticed that you'd love to build a solution for? Tell us in the comments! ๐Ÿ‘‡๐Ÿฝ #DataHERAfrica #DataHERAfricaSpotlight #WomenInTech #WomenInBusiness #africanwomenintech by @dataherafrica
Hey, DataChamp! Did you know you can be a mentor to someone, even while you're still learning yourself? You don't have to know it all to help another woman grow in data and AI. Sometimes, it's the little things you do that make the biggest difference. Here are 5 simple ways to support your fellow women in data: ๐Ÿ“Œ Share a resource that helped you understand a difficult concept. ๐Ÿ’ฌ Offer encouragement to someone struggling to learn something new. ๐Ÿค Learn together by practising a skill or working on a project with a peer. ๐Ÿ’ก Share your experience so someone else can learn from your journey. ๐Ÿ”— Share opportunities for jobs, internships, scholarships, and learning. Sometimes, all someone needs is a little reminder that they're making progress. ๐Ÿ’œ You don't have to know it all to help someone grow. Start with what you know! ๐Ÿ‘‡๐Ÿฝ Let's start right here. Drop a word of encouragement for a woman navigating her journey in data and AI. She might need to hear it today. ๐Ÿงก #DataHERAfrica #WomenInData #WomenInAI #Mentorship by @dataherafrica
Time is one of life's most valuable assets, and there are people who choose to give theirs generously to others. They make room in their schedules. They listen. They share what they know. They show up, even when they have their own full plates. To all of our mentors, THANK YOU. ๐Ÿ’œ Thank you for giving your time, experience, and wisdom to the women in our community. Thank you for helping someone see a little more clearly, go a little further, and believe a little more in what is possible. Thank you for being the mentors you once needed to our DataChamps. Join us in appreciating our mentors in the comments. ๐Ÿ‘‡๐Ÿฝ๐Ÿงก by @dataherafrica
Someone is going to need what you know. You may think your experience is ordinary because youโ€™ve lived it. To someone just starting, it could be the thing that makes the journey a little easier. This Monday, weโ€™re inviting you to share what you know, the lessons youโ€™ve learnt, and the things you wish someone had told you sooner. At DataHER Africa, we believe women should not have to navigate data and AI alone. Sometimes, all it takes is one person willing to say, โ€œIโ€™ve been here too. Let me help.โ€ That person could be you. ๐Ÿ’œ Become a DataHER Africa Mentor: https://share.google/KINA4wRCbSqQ1HIvO or click the link in our bio. We'll love to hear from you. ๐Ÿงก by @dataherafrica

Hello, October! ๐ŸŽ‰ A new month means new data to collect, new lessons to process, and new possibilities to explore. May October bring you the clarity to recognise the patterns in your journey, the courage to let go of what no longer serves you, and the patience to trust the process, even when the results arenโ€™t immediate. Every experience adds to your dataset. Every attempt gives you more information. Every small win is a signal that youโ€™re moving forward. Hereโ€™s to meaningful experiences, better decisions, and a month worth remembering. Happy New Month from DataHER Africa! ๐Ÿ’œ๐Ÿงก Keep learning. Keep growing. Keep showing up. by @dataherafrica
Community Spotlight! ๐Ÿ’ซ Today, weโ€™re celebrating one of the incredible women in our DataChamps community. Meet @ademijube Victoria. ๐Ÿ’œ Victoria is a Healthcare Data Analyst who has continued to show up, learn, and grow throughout her journey with DataHER Africa. Weโ€™ve watched her build her skills, grow in confidence, and become more intentional about using data to solve real-world problems. She recently completed her community project, putting her learning into practice and creating something meaningful along the way. Watching our community members move from learning to building is one of the things that makes us so proud. ๐Ÿฅน Victoria, weโ€™re proud of how far youโ€™ve come, and we canโ€™t wait to see all the amazing things youโ€™ll do with everything youโ€™re becoming. DataHER Africa is proud of you and rooting for you! ๐Ÿงก๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿฝ Letโ€™s celebrate HER! ๐ŸŽ‰ #DataHERAfrica #DataChamps #CommunitySpotlight #WomenInData #HealthcareData by @dataherafrica
