In less than a week @david_pointer_ceramics and I will be part of a group exhibition “Spirit of Fancy” at @durlstoncountrypark

The exhibition runs from Wednesday 18th August until Thursday 17th September 2026 in the Fine Foundation Gallery at Durlston Country Park. Open every day 10.30am-4.30pm (free entry)

Fellow @walfordmill artist and makers @ali.woodgate.artist and @seaparrott will also be exhibiting and we’re all taking it in turns to steward. Please do come and see what we’ve all been up to. It’s looking great!

There’s still plenty of time to visit my exhibition inside Walford Mill ‘Threaded Together’ which runs until Sunday 30th August. I’ll be here every day so look forward seeing you there!

Wednesday to Saturday 10am-5pm
Sunday 11am-4pm
(Closed to the public Mondays and Tuesdays)

Don’t forget there’s ongoing roadworks so approach us via Victoria Rd past the hospital, turn right at the lights into the top of Stone Lane. Go through the ‘Road Closed Ahead’ sign, continue down Stone Lane and turn left into Knobcrook Rd as usual.

A lot of people ask me about barrel firing and how it works so I set up this little mini demo in a glass tube. The barrel is layered up with sawdust, straw, organics (in this case seaweed) more straw and, finally wood. The barrel is lit from the top and as the fire burns down the organics, sawdust and straw combusts and the chemical vapours impregnate the surface of the clay. The full scale process normally takes 2 to 3 hours and the same time to cool back down. I use seaweed, fruit skins, salt and metal oxides in my full scale firings. Threaded Together opens tomorrow 29 July at Walford Mill!
This special exhibition celebrates 40 remarkable years of weaving by Debby Kirby @debbykirbysilk @walfordmill in Wimborne, Dorset. Debby has long been the heartbeat of the Mill, and I am incredibly honoured and excited to collaborate with Debby on this prestigious exhibition. Together we’ll be exploring the relationship between colour, texture and form, bringing together contemporary silk weaving and sculptural ceramics in a dialogue between two very different materials.
And the opening party is not to be missed:
