Father & 2 Kids: 4 Days of Memories

Ever since becoming an MP, I’ve realised how difficult it can be to find uninterrupted extended time with my two little ones. While we treasure the small moments every day, I knew they also needed moments of undivided attention.

So a few months ago, with my wife’s blessing, I decided to bring both of them on an overseas trip, just the three of us.

No distractions. Just 100% daddy-and-children time.

The last 4 days have been exhausting (my shoulders can testify 😅), but they were also filled with laughter, little adventures, and many core memories that I’ll treasure for a very long time.

Looking forward to welcoming mummy home from her school trip tonight & back to spending the day with Clementi residents today 🫰🏻 by @davidhoesg

I was at the Singapore National Eye Centre today, and it brought back a funny yet meaningful childhood memory.

When I was in Primary 1, my conduct grade was marked as ‘Fair’. I panicked because I thought I had failed! Afraid my mum would be upset, I borrowed a pen from the shop and tried to change it to ‘GOOD’. 😅

Looking back, I realise my mum couldn’t have seen the conduct grade anyway (my teacher did tell my mum & I bore the consequence). She had lost her sight after a failed cataract surgery. I remember guiding her hand to sign my report book in that moment.

Even though Mum was completely blind, she showed me that while we cannot choose our circumstances, we can choose how we respond. She chose to fight on—starting her own “business” selling tissue papers and snacks at hawker centres and coffeeshops to provide for us. Honestly, I hated having to work at a young age when my friends didn’t have to. But looking back, those moments taught me resilience, responsibility, and the value of hard work.

Love you, Mum ❤️ by @davidhoesg

Some might ask me, “David, why young people?”

My work has always been about believing in people, nurturing potential, and bridging gaps so everyone can thrive, especially our youths. Each initiative here is my way of giving back, driven by gratitude for those who once believed in me when I was younger.

Looking back on this journey, I’m truly thankful for everyone I’ve had the privilege to walk alongside with. Together, we truly are stronger. ❤️ by @davidhoesg

Good news for EV drivers in Clementi!

Together with @eve_empoweringjourneys and @shell_singapore , we’ve recently installed eight additional DC fast chargers at Clementi Avenue 2 to make charging more convenient for our residents!

Whether you’re running errands, spending time with loved ones or heading to your next destination, we hope these chargers will help you get back on the road more quickly.

A gentle reminder to move your vehicle once charging is complete, so that the next driver can use the charger too.

A little consideration goes a long way. Let’s continue to choose kindness and make Clementi a better home for everyone!

Parliament continues to sit tomorrow, and here are the next five Parliamentary Questions I’ve filed.

These questions focus on how we can better support children, young people and families with different needs.

From caregiving and mental health to school access and adoption, the common thread is ensuring that our policies provide timely support, reduce barriers and help every child and family feel included.

Had an enjoyable time exploring the @imdasg Digital for Life Festival with our Clementi seniors recently! 🫰🏻

What struck me was that the festival was more than just people and partners coming together. It brought together people who care about the everyday concerns of our residents.

From protecting ourselves against scams, to helping parents manage their children’s screen time, and exploring how technology can better support persons with disabilities.

To me, this is a reflection of the Singapore we want to build. One where people step forward, contribute their strengths and work together to care for one another.

Grateful to everyone who made this possible!

Another meaningful Monday night serving our residents.

None of this would have been possible without our volunteers who made time to step forward, listen with empathy and write with compassion for every resident who came to us.

Grateful to all our volunteers for serving alongside me, week after week, with heart and care. You are #mympswhy by @davidhoesg

With so many training courses available, how can workers know which skills will actually improve their employment prospects?

When Parliament sat in October, I asked about providing employment-outcome information to help workers make more informed decisions about their training pathways.

After all, upskilling should not just be about completing courses, but also about helping workers access better employment opportunities.
