Last week I was given the very unfortunate news that a life long friend and mentor Mr. Orson Bean has passed away. It was a complete shock to me and everyone who’s known him. He was one of the few people I thought would live forever. At 91 he was still constantly working in plays and TV and enjoying every second of it. I chose this clip above because it was one of the best memories of my life. In December of 2008, I ran on stage and performed for the very first time out here in LA in A Christmas Carol. Not only was that a huge moment for me but to perform alongside Orson was amazing. Him and his wife put up this play every year at my school and church and this was the first time I got to be a part of it. After the last show I told him how much I loved acting and that I wanted to pursue it beyond this. So Orson, being the amazing man he is, paid for me to go in to a 4 week acting conservatory over the summer. That conservatory was the first step to my professional acting career and the reason I am still acting today. I owe my whole career to this man. Although this story is special to me, Orson has always donated his time, money, expertise, and encouragement to anyone passionate about pursuing the arts. He knows first hand how hard and discouraging it can be to want to be an actor or entertainer and chose to encourage and help people as much as he could. Anyone who has met him before knows how special of a person he was. You would never not catch him smiling or laughing or cracking a joke. If you ever asked him how he was he would say “better than I deserve.” He has touched so many peoples lives wether you met him, knew him, or even saw him on TV. He was given the opportunity to spend his whole life doing what he loved and he used it to make people happy. And he’s the reason I am now spending my life doing what I love. My heart goes out to his friends, his family, and his amazing wife Alley. Orson, until I see you again, I will do my best to live my life the way you did, doing what I love and making people smile. I love you Lad ❤️ by @davidvaldes
