Have you ever noticed how easily your mind can get caught up in the past or worry about the future?

We replay conversations, criticize ourselves for past decisions, worry about what might happen, or mentally prepare for problems that haven’t even occurred.

Meanwhile, the present moment passes us by.

Present moment awareness is the practice of gently bringing your attention back to what is happening right now. It’s a key part of mindfulness, and research suggests that mindfulness-based practices can support mental health and help reduce symptoms of anxiety, depression, and psychological distress. 🧠

🌱 How can present moment awareness help?

✨ It can interrupt cycles of worry and rumination by helping us notice when our thoughts are pulling us away from the present.

✨ It encourages emotional awareness. Rather than automatically reacting to a feeling, we can pause, recognize what we’re experiencing, and choose how to respond.

✨ It helps us relate differently to our thoughts. A thought is not necessarily a fact, a prediction, or a reflection of who we are.

✨ It can help us reconnect with everyday experiences, from enjoying a conversation to noticing the warmth of the sun or the feeling of our feet touching the ground.

✨ It encourages self-compassion by helping us notice what’s happening within us without immediately judging ourselves for it.

💚 A gentle reminder: Present moment awareness isn’t about ignoring the past, avoiding the future, or forcing yourself to feel calm. It’s about learning to meet the moment you’re in with greater awareness and less judgment.

You don’t have to solve your whole life today. Sometimes, the most helpful place to begin is right here, in this moment.

🌱 What is one small thing you can do today with your full attention?

Happy Pride! 🌈 Being authentically yourself isn’t just about self-expression—it’s an important part of mental well-being.

When we constantly hide parts of who we are, change ourselves to fit in, or seek approval from others, it can create stress, anxiety, and disconnection. Over time, wearing a mask becomes exhausting.

Authenticity allows us to build relationships based on who we truly are, not who we think we should be. It helps us develop self-acceptance, strengthen our sense of identity, and make choices that align with our values.

Being yourself won’t mean everyone approves—and that’s okay. The goal isn’t to be liked by everyone. The goal is to feel at home in your own life.

The more we embrace our genuine selves, the more energy we have for the things that truly matter.

😅 🏃‍♀️Exercise is a great way to improve your mental health! It’s an opportunity to settle into your body, get some calm and happy chemicals going, and spend time with your friends and community. 🥰

Exercise is also an excellent distraction from dealing with your feelings. We all need (and should take) breaks from sitting in the tough stuff too long.

Prolonged avoidance, however, isn’t the best strategy. 🤯

Get out there and be active, and also prioritize your mental health in other ways - like talking with a certified counsellor or other mental health professional. 🗣️🧠
