Jesus + More is out today! A limited run of vinyl is available on the @tableauxrecords website (link in bio).

This album of covers was recorded over the course of a few years whenever the three of us were in town together. It was recorded live to tape with minimal overdubs. Most of the songs have a psychedelic spiritual essence and we really tried to honor them. I’m really so proud of this one and we hope you give it a listen 🌞

David Bowie tracked Pin Ups and the Berlin Trilogy albums starting with Low, on this 400 series MCI console at the famous Château d'Hérouville studio in France. Lots of other classic records were also recorded there including Elton John’s Honky Château, Goodbye Yellow Brick Road, and Iggy Pop’s The Idiot.

The sonic characteristics of these consoles are warm, fat and punchy. The transformer-coupled mic preamps have weight and density in the low end. The low frequency EQ adds to this also, using an inductor which adds subtle harmonic distortion and saturation.

The mix bus glues it all up, making the individual tracks sit together naturally with openness and width.

I am booking out for the fall now for live tracking and mixing sessions. Tracking-wise, I use this console (mine is a JH 428) as my main focus and try to minimize using screens wherever possible (tape recording is obviously ideal for this).

For mixing I rely on the console to impart warmth, saturation and complexity to glue the tracks all together. If you are in Nashville, I like having clients attend mixing sessions. I also use digital plug-ins and analog outboard gear to create a hybrid approach. I print stem groups through the console after mixing for easy changes and subsequent recalls.

I try to use Daylight Sound as a distraction-free environment specifically designed to help artists (and myself!) disconnect from screens and focus on live performance, tracking and playback.

Please reach out if you have any projects you would like to work on together! ✌🏼 by @daylightsound
