Still can’t get over how ridiculously pretty yellow mongooses are. 😍A few cool facts about these little Kalahari characters:Species: Yellow Mongoose (Cynictis penicillata) — They’re highly social and often live in small family groups with shared burrow systems — Unlike many mongooses, they’re mostly active during the day and love sunbathing outside their dens — Their fluffy tails aren’t just cute, they also help with balance and communication — They mainly feed on insects, rodents, reptiles, and scorpions, making them important little pest controllers in the ecosystem — they also fight and kill venomous snakes which makes it handy having them around 😊 Tiny, curious, fearless… and somehow always photogenic. 🐾#wildlife #nature #animals #africa #desert

Sirga is spending a day at home in order for us to safely carry out maintenance at the wildlife waterhole in her territory. As you can see she was at home anyway and only came outside to greet me. I usually try to use times when she voluntarily spends her time at home for moments when we close the door to her enclosure. I’m sure she won’t mind a day with the door safely shut in her 10.000m2 apartment for a relaxing weekend 😉 #sirgathelioness

$Vultures interrupted our Q&A session 🐾 🦁 Vultures are among the most important - and most misunderstood - animals in Africa’s ecosystems.Many people are surprised to learn that several vulture species in southern Africa are now more endangered than the white rhino. And yet, they receive only a fraction of the attention.Nature evolved vultures for a reason. They are the clean-up crew of the wild, capable of locating and removing carcasses incredibly quickly. In doing so, they help prevent the spread of dangerous diseases such as anthrax, botulism and rabies, while keeping entire ecosystems healthier and more balanced.But vultures have been declining for decades. As migratory herbivore populations disappeared across much of southern Africa, and large predators like lions declined in many regions, the number of natural carcasses available to vultures also dropped dramatically. Habitat loss, collisions with power infrastructure, and accidental poisoning have added even more pressure.Today, another devastating threat has emerged: wildlife poisoning linked to poaching. Poachers targeting elephants or rhinos often poison carcasses deliberately because vultures circling overhead can reveal illegal activity to rangers and anti-poaching teams. In a single incident, hundreds of vultures can die.And the loss of vultures doesn’t just affect wildlife. It affects all of us.
