Somethings cooking // An evening built around good food and good company.    On Tuesday, October 13, Gus welcomes Stuart Brioza of State Bird Provisions and Mandel Hitzer of Deer + Almond to Published on Main for a collaborative tasting menu. Three chefs who have been crossing paths and cooking together for years, bringing it all together in one Vancouver kitchen.   Limited seating remains. Link in bio to join us at the table. by @deer_and_almond
This is my first big mural, “The Solar System”, done at @deer_and_almond 13 years ago this month. Yesterday I was informed by my friend Mandel Hitzer @mansands , the owner/creator/head chef of deer+almond, of something totally unacceptable and unauthorized happening to the mural collection we had painted over 3 consecutive years, initiatives between Mandel and I executed very D.I.Y. and without any meaningful support from “big art”. Anyway, someone came and blacked out huge portions of it when the restaurant wasn’t open. I’m proud of what we (including the dozens of friends and well-wishers over the years who contributed with prepping, priming, painting, cooking, live music, beverage making, and all around positive vibes who I’ll never forget) were able to accomplish! We’re still wrapping our heads around what comes next, as we’ve discovered this story is a bit wild — but I’ll keep quiet until the next steps are taken in the coming weeks. Just a little public service announcement in case anyone was wondering what happened to the walls here in downtown Winnipeg. In the meantime, if you have taken any fun/interesting photos of these walls over the past 13 years, I’d appreciate a look… and collecting images could help expedite an acceptable resolution. Thank you for reading,✌️&❤️ by @deer_and_almond

Our Raspberry Sour is in good company at Deer + Almond. Pouring on tap, it pairs beautifully with their colourful menu, which, judging from Rainah’s reaction, is out of this world. Located in the Exchange District, make a reservation @deer_and_almond to try for yourself. by @deer_and_almond
