The American Photographic Artists - Los Angeles chapter "Off The Clock" 2026 competition catalog has arrived!

It is an honor to have Ascent No. 1 selected by Chris Pichler of @nazraeli.press as one of the 100 photographs. This recognition is confirmation not only of my skill, but moreso my passion in photographic artistic practice.

Critical Mass Top 200, 2026.

I picked up a camera with real intent about two years ago. Self-taught, funded by a day job, no MFA cohort, no mentor. Most of what I've built, I've built by showing up to portfolio reviews and asking people smarter than me for the truth about the work.

I now find myself as a top-two hundred photographer. Coincidentally, two hundred international jurors are about to further judge the project for the next round. That's not a small thing for a body of work built in isolation.

Thank you to @photolucida for running a program that actually moves careers instead of just handing out certificates.

Suspended Pantheon. Miami, 2026.

The figures reflected in the sphere overhead stand taller in the frame than the one person walking in the alley beneath them, who reads as a dark mark beside the center line. Strings of small globes cross below the sphere in several sagging rows, and past them the walls converge on a bright patch at the far end. The sphere and the globes hold the brightest tones, the walls sit through the middle range, and the floor to either side of a pale center strip is unbroken black.

Fog & Green. New York, 2026.

The dark form at the center breaks along its upper edge into a row of fine ragged points, the only sharp detail in the picture. Condensation covers the pane throughout, flat milky grey across the top and granular through the middle, with pale amber in a broad band to the middle left and two blue grey verticals standing either side of the center. A single green mark sits right of center at mid height, more saturated than anything else here, with a red mark higher.

Pooled. New York, 2024.

A hard dark wedge sits inside the dark forms, and every other edge above the rim is soft. The forms spread across a pale green white field, each holding fine branching lines within its soft border. A dark rim curves across the lower third, and below it paving stones fill the bottom of the frame with their joints dark, two thin legs crossing them.

Canon EOS Rebel T8i, EF-S 24mm f/2.8.

$Seen Through. New York, 2026. Two small figures stand in a row beside the silhouette at shoulder height, each of them a fraction of its size, both sets caught in the same pane. The head and shoulders take the left and center and run off the bottom edge, solid dark from edge to edge and without a hard contour anywhere along them. To the right a facade of tall windows and pilasters is an even pale grey throughout, broken by one bright rectangle high at the center and a second point further right, with coarse grain over all of it. Kept Gaze. New York, 2026.

An eye drawn in heavy arcs sits behind the gap between two boards, centered in the only opening in the hoarding, with the lettering beside it breaking off where the board edge cuts it. A hooked bar crosses that opening on the diagonal and fastens at the middle, in front of a pipe whose paint has come away in strips. The boards to either side stand out of focus and run off all four edges, their pasted sheets torn down to ragged white patches over dark wood.

Anteroom. New York, 2026.

The lit blocks ringing the floor are doubled, each one trailed by a fainter copy offset in the pane out front. Streaks run across the three panels at the back, thrown onto the stone. What the fixtures do not reach drops to black, the carved strips between the panels and the grilles cut into the ceiling corners.

Yellow Shutter. New York, 2026.

The shutter’s corrugation does not break where the walking figure crosses it, and neither does the diagonal where blue meets green, so the body shows only as a violet grey veil with nothing solid inside it. The paint sits on the sheet in hard blocks whose straight edges cut across the ribbing, yellow at the left, a green wedge rising out of the lower left, blue and teal to the right. A louvered door at the center carries the same yellow into green, its left jamb scuffed to bare metal beneath a strip of yellow, and two tapered bollards stand in front of it where the sidewalk begins.

Canon EOS R6 Mark II.
