🎧📀 DJ & things for @socialstudiesnight
POSTS STORIES REELS
This Friday @scott_zacharias will be playing a 4-hour set for @socialstudiesnight, and it’s the perfect way to gear up for celebrating our 15th anni in a couple months. We think Scott’s trajectory touches a lot of the sensibilities we’ve tried to shape the party around (those are, no rules). For those who knew us in our much younger years, our entry points to dance music and eventually this “disco/house/techno” party were really some combination of post punk, disco, and hip hop. Of loft and basement parties, of cultural heritage and the American experience, of underground shows and record store hangs. It’s really special for us to see how someone with so many musical touchpoints—some overlapping with ours and some not—and so much musical knowledge, contributes to a very unique and important place under this umbrella of “dance music.” To remind us of what was, what is, and what’s to come and how they all live together. On our record shelves are a few The Fantasy edits Alfredo picked up in the early 2010s and, to be honest, we didn’t know who was behind them until more recent years. So the fantasy very much becomes reality for us on Friday. We don’t get a Scott everyday! Let’s listen, let’s dance. This experience will be enhanced by subwoofer support from @systemfailure617, which is also exciting for us! Tickets are more expensive at the door so we recommend buying now on RA. 🔗☝️ by @design.by.alfredo
The beloved @socialstudiesnight summer tradition is back @jamaicaplainporchfest! It’s always a joy for us to welcome folks from all over to our musical home to hang out and dance, soundtracked by a rotating lineup of vinyl DJs all from the neighborhood we love. We hope to channel the spirit of a proper block party in our humble backyard through feel-good dance music, good sound, and good people. Once again we have complimentary drinks made possible by @dulcevidatequila. Spend your summer Saturday outside with us—it’s free and for the whole family 🌺 📍8 Copley Street, Roxbury MA (yes, you’ll see Roxbury on maps; we’re on the line.) 5-minute walk from the Stonybrook T More info on slides by @design.by.alfredo

Both silky smooth behind the decks, we’re excited to have them join us behind the decks at Re:Set. Social Studies has been part of the Boston dance music scene for the last 15 years, serving dancers looking to focus on the music and the stories behind it. Hosting guests from Moodymann to JADALAREIGN, Social Studies has always aimed to honor dance music’s creators, amplify its torchbearers and innovators, and introduce rising underground stars to Boston. We haven’t thrown a regular Social Studies in a minute so we wanted to restart the series with a guest who very vividly reflects our mission—our mission which is as simple as amplifying good people who play good music with a distinct purpose. We often discuss whom we want to bring for a long time before planning a party but this time, each of us knew right away @_moyasin_ should be our guest. We know him for thoughtful, emotionally impactful sets, a dedication to all sides of sound, and a deep care for DIY in New York. We’re honored to have him in town and we hope you’ll dance with us for the occasion. As always, advance 🎟️ will save you a little—check the profile for the link (and please let us know if it’s cost prohibitive). And we have an extra treat: @handtohandrecordsma has curated crates of records you can shop during dance breaks. See you Friday at Lower Level! by @design.by.alfredo
The last 6 months have been pretty demanding in our “day” practices for Sacha, Azzeddine & myself. A little absence was needed to regroup. Over the years we’ve tried to exchange frequency with intention and that formula is probably the one truest to us. That said, Summer is upon us and with that our little offering for you. We’re very excited for the events coming up and the hope for less screen time and a little time under the sun this summer. Nighttime like always, will always be there and hope you will join us on… Fri 7.10: @socialstudiesnight is back with a real artist whose practice moves us deeply, @_moyasin_ (support from @azz_ela) Wed 7.15: We have the opportunity to get in an extended spin ourselves at @reset_boston Sat 8.22: We continue the @jamaicaplainporchfest tradition at our house (details TBA) Fri 9.25: Social Studies rounds out the fair season with sonic adventures from an esteemed + overdue Detroit guest (TBA) ✂️: @paperplustape by @design.by.alfredo
Mixer is back this Friday with special guest @livealittle.club. A veteran of Boston’s club scene, Durkin is also a prolific producer with a nice list of credits on @foolsgoldrecs under his Live A Little moniker and a couple EPs with Maka 3.0. This year I did the artwork for the 7” release of GGG and it’s been one of those records I’ve kept spinning out frequently since i got a copy. Join us this Friday at @chemistboston for a Mixer with sounds from all sides of the club spectrum! We are excited! See ya tomorrow! Always Free • 21+ by @design.by.alfredo

Thursday 8.14, we are thrilled to welcome musical extraordinaire, Salar Ansari! One of our favorite live acts, Salar will play both a live set and DJ for us. Needless to say we are excited! Salar is a DJ, producer, and influential figure whose musical journey transcends borders and genres. Born and raised in Tehran, he emerged from the city’s vibrant underground scene, drawing from a rich tapestry of musical influences to craft his signature blend of techno, house, and Persian rhythms. Now in Detroit, Salar continues to leave his mark on electronic music with his fantastic productions, compelling live sets, and boundary pushing collaborations. Starting the party, we are thrilled to invite the duo from Social Studies, Alfredo & Sacha. As two of the forces behind one of Boston’s most cherished parties, the pair have been carving out space for underground dance music in the city since 2011. Beyond their excellence as organizers, they have plenty of experience in the booth, soundtracking countless nights over the years with their disco, house and techno selections. We are thrilled to hear them play together as they ease us into the night! Tickets are in our bio and on RA! Steep has zero tolerance for harassment of any form. 21+ 🎨 @steff.gar by @design.by.alfredo

@socialstudiesnight is back tonight at lower level after a really memorable party with Tammy Lakkis last summer. Our DIY events, which are at the heart of what we do, don’t occur that often and maybe it’s because of this that they are so special to us. More importantly it’s our way to highlight our guests; artists and selectors that move us and ones that we truly admire. Tonight we welcome back @0gbd0 to Boston for the first time in 6 years. We are very excited to catch up and can’t wait to see where the night takes us sonically. Every time we’ve heard them play it’s been memorable and based on record I know tonight will be too. Sal (@plans2chill) joins us tonight as well and i’m just grateful the whole crew is here tonight. @smadadian @azz_ela and myself will be bopping around so come hang out. We’d love to see you. Tickets will be available on RA til 8pm. $20 at door til 11pm. $25 after that. by @design.by.alfredo
This Friday, @socialstudiesnight is back. We have these nights infrequently so we only host artists that we really hold dear. This Friday, we have one of the most skilled, dedicated, and progressive figures of U.S. club culture, @0gbd0. They’re also an incredible human to know.  Getting their education behind the booth at the prestigious @smartbarchicago, the former resident has captivated us for over a decade with sets that are as energetic as they are melodic, and as fluid as they are concrete. Although we were first introduced to them via the House & Techno sounds of the American Midwest, today their repertoire is not defined by genres but rather by textures and layers. The mix they so kindly made for us is a good example of that. (Link in Bio.) Years of dedicated experimentation has taken them to the most relevant and respected venues and parties across the world both as gbd and formerly as Savile. As a producer, they have released work on labels we love. Whether it was on Chicago-based labels like Stripped & Chewed, or Mike Simonetti’s 2MR, their catalogue continues to grow and transform, never falling into repetition. Similarly as an artist, the evolution extends beyond the DJ booth or the studio. At this year’s Movement, they will join Shigeto’s Live and Direct party at Spotlite, a reminder that the kid from Michigan never really stopped loving beats. Today Brooklyn-based and a resident at @publicrecordsnyc, gbd gets to create atmospheres unique to each of the spaces within the building. Whether in conjunction with AceMo & Co. in the Sound Room as the Sonic Messengers, or playing with an array of guests in the Atrium, or even solo vinyl-spinning upstairs, it’s clear how much dedication goes into setting the right vibe for each nook of the club.  Friday, they’ll take that vibe setting to the basement at Lower Level. We are so excited to enter their world for the evening. ✏️(in slides): @smadadian by @design.by.alfredo
Our @socialstudiesnight Mixer is back tonight at @chemistboston to close up March and welcome Spring! Joining us this month @shane.levi and @patchwork.mix, two dear friends of ours with an excellent taste in music and an obsessive love for vinyl! In addition to their residencies at State Park, you can often find Kate and Shane playing at various art events and listening lounges around town. We are very excited we finally got this Mixer on the calendar and happy @azz_ela could make the trip up from NY this month too! See you tonight! All vinyl all night starting at 10pm. ✌🏽 by @design.by.alfredo
