POSTS STORIES REELS
This account will still be dedicated to commercial projects and collaborations. I just thought it would be cool to show a snippet of an idea that may never see the light of day. Before I made the profession of faith, I was an avid fan of world-building and storytelling. After my conversion, I began to place myself in a box and limit my creativity due to my false perception of Christianity and the fear of being ridiculed. Now that I am in a healthier place creatively, I thought it would be an interesting challenge to create two original short projects mainly influenced by The Screwtape Letters by C.S. Lewis and The Unseen Realm by Dr. Michael Heiser; two books that depicts the reality of spiritual warfare from a biblical perspective. #indiecomic #comicbook #webcomic #illustrations #newyorkillustrator #artistoninsta by @diegombest
After a year of wrestling with the concept to the execution, this is the final result. I hope this post blesses you as we conclude the 40 Days of Lent! Also, thank you to all those who have prayed over me throughout this creative process. Disclaimer: The illustrator holds to a reformed, orthodox, and confessional view of God (i.e. the Trinity). These illustrations are NOT an endorsement or a promotion of the unorthodox/ heretical view of God such as Partialism, Sabellianism, Noetianism, Patripassianism, Modalism, or Tritheism. Furthermore, these images are NOT meant to be "venerated" or included in worship in anyway; that would be breaking the second commandment (Exodus 20:4-6). Instead, these images serve to point back to scripture and the Gospel. Thank you. #lent #passover #easter #jesuschrist #church #catholic #orthodox #protestant #christian #illustrator #christianartist by @diegombest
Pneuma Vol 3: MOTION Cover & Spot Illustration. Mixed media. 11 × 16”. Aug 2026. It was a poetic return to volunteer for the first volume of the digital magazine and then be commissioned to design the cover for a physical edition two years later. I remembered struggling to capture the waves in the first edition to having fun with them in the latest installment. @ruekome gave me the vision, the grace, and the room to explore the theme “MOTION”. As a result, this cover was the product of my grappling with that theme. I hope you enjoy this collaborative drawing as well as the fruit of six talented artists featured throughout the magazine. I’m excited to see what @pneuma.creates has in store. #christian #bible #artwork by @diegombest
Statue. Ballpoint Pen and Acrylic Gouache on Hot press Watercolor Paper. 9 x 12". Jul 2026. The original photo of the statue was taken nearly a decade ago for a college assignment. My class visited the Guggenheim to observe a part of Danh Vo’s larger body of work, Take My Breath Away. There were other elaborate pieces, yet the story about the statue captivated me the most. A few years later, the dismembered figure continued to haunt me, and I finally found myself painting it. #fineart #print #guggenheim #moma #gothic by @diegombest
Over the course of two months, starting in April, I took notes on the @church.nyc series, Freed. These chaotic doodles were made with a ballpoint pen in my hardbound sketchbook while I reflected on and processed my church journey over the last two years. #lifedrawing #figuredrawing #urbandrawing #church #sermon by @diegombest
Diego Best is a commissioned artist for the Generations gallery. Diego Best is a Queens-based Freelance Illustrator. He graduated with a BFA from the Fashion Institute of Technology (2016-2020). He has collaborated with various ministries and smaller brands. His dream is to write, draw, and publish original short stories that explore existential and religious themes. This series of full-body portraits highlights Black Gen Z creatives from multicultural backgrounds within the Church. In preparation for this project, he read Jemar Tisby and Doug Van Dorn. Diego notes that “It was a pleasure to get to the models for the project! If it weren’t for them, this project wouldn’t exist.” GENERATIONS is on display March 26 – April 6 at 417 W 57th st, as a gift to New York City — featuring Diego’s work as well as nine other’s work that lifts eyes to the Creator of heaven and earth. A big thanks to @joshuajdunn for inviting me to join the @creative.nyc commission and being patient with me every step of the way. Also, thank you to @positiveprintlab for providing me with amazing prints and for @yohaan helping me format and install them. As always, to those who supported the project’s message, spread the word, and prayed for me when I felt like giving up, I can’t thank you enough! Lastly, I deeply appreciate Anthony, Ashley, and Abby for being my muse. Without y’all sharing your stories and providing references, the project would not be possible! My colleagues worked really hard on their projects, so please come out if you can on Thursday.
