FB post from 2020:

“La canelera” by Los Caneleros de Sinaloa

Here’s a bit of a curve ball.
A classic that everyone remembers from “El parral” (if they ever went there)
As soon as the live music took a break, this song would be played and everyone damn near lost their minds. They’d all flock to the dance floor. Seems like everyone was waiting for “that song” to come on. You’d hear screams and seconds later, the tables would be empty with everyone on the dance floor.
This one is about the very first time i heard it.
After having gotten somewhat into the quebradita scene, my brother introduced me to some friends in Watts. Cool people. We hit it off really good and i was asked to be in one of their clubs and i accepted. Good times. Met other people through them and so on.
One of the guys i had the pleasure of meeting during that period was Martin. We got along really well. even after the scene died away we still hung out. Really smart and funny guy. And well as things tend to happen he’s now the father to my neice and nephew.
We remained friends and one night we went on a double date to El Parral. Sittin’ back having drinks and enjoying the live music. Now one of the things i liked about Martin was that he had good taste in music. He liked a lot of the same stuff that i liked.
Anyhow, we’re sitting there and then it’s time for the dj to play and out of nowhere, this song came on. Me and Martin looked at eachother in absolute disbelief. I mean we were dumbfounded. I looked around. No one was moving. No one cared. But me and Martin were fucking amazed. We had never heard anything like it in that type of setting.
I remember my date saying to me “ Let’s go dance”.
I said “no, hold on. Let me listen to this song. We’ll dance the next one”.
Next day we went and told people about it then as months passed, you’d start to hear it more and more then it ultimately became the anthem that it is today i guess.
I hope Martin is doing well and really hope to see him again.
🙏🏼🖤

One year anniversary today. It’s been interesting for sure. It’s been good! 🙏🏼
Will start posting stories about my life in no particular order. No “moral of the story”, no happy endings, no punchlines. Just me putting my memories good and bad on full display for your reading enjoyment. I think most of us believe our lives are worthy of a book or biopic so I’ll drop nuggets every now and again.
