OPENING RECEPTION BROOKLYN, NY - THURSDAY, SEPTEMBER 3, 5โ€“8PM โ€œBody/Land Exchangeโ€ by Jody Pinto โ€œTwo structures face each other. They are alike yet different. They are connected by a body-land exchange. It is a transfusion of rain through a sluice system. They are dependent upon each other for life. A second exchange occurs when the project is watered by hand. It is aliveโ€”it has thirst.โ€ โ€” Jody Pinto Art Lot is proud to present โ€œBody/Land Exchangeโ€ in partnership with moCa Cleveland. This exhibition takes place in tandem with โ€œJody Pinto: Body/Land,โ€ the artistโ€™s first retrospective and first solo museum exhibition hosted by moCa Cleveland. Both shows are on view August 28, 2026โ€“March 7, 2027. ๐Ÿ“moCa Cleveland: โ€œJody Pinto: Body/Landโ€ opening reception August 28, 6-9PM ๐Ÿ“Art Lot, Brooklyn: โ€œBody/Land Exchangeโ€ opening reception September 3, 5-8PM @artlotbrooklyn @jody.pinto @mocacleveland @mncatalano @djhellerman #artlot #jodypinto #mocacleveland #mariecatalano #djhellerman by @djhellerman
Art Lot is thrilled to announce โ€œBody/Land Exchange,โ€ a new outdoor sculpture by Jody Pinto produced in partnership with moCa Cleveland and concurrent with the artistโ€™s first institutional retrospective curated by Marie Catalano and DJ Hellerman. Drawing on her series of architectural sculptures from the late 1970s entitled โ€œHeart Chambers,โ€ Pinto will show a pair of structures connected by a weather-responsive duct system, each dependent on the other in a shared ecology of survival. Pintoโ€™s five-decade practice emerged from the 1970s Land Art movement and spans sculpture, drawing, ephemeral outdoor installations, landscape interventions, and public art. As founder of Women Organized Against Rape (WOAR) in 1973, Pinto linked feminist activism with a lifelong commitment to working in public space. Her concept of โ€œbody/landโ€ connects bodily and environmental forms and systems such as veins and irrigation, hair and plant growth, and cycles of injury and healing. Since the 1990s, she has completed more than fifty international public commissions, exploring municipal space as a form of public theater. โ€œBody/Land Exchange,โ€ August 28, 2026 โ€“ March 7, 2027 Photo: Jody Pinto with โ€œHeart Chamber for Gertrude and Angelo,โ€ 1978, cement block, organic pigment, timber, metal, rain.
