Something about this thrifted frame reminded me of an old sea green and black storefront mosaic I saw once. After a patient few months, I found just the right color necklace and clothing fabric at the thrift store (1/2 price!) and this piece evolved. It's fun to combine media into one unique piece! #thriftstore #upcycleart #seedbeads #beading #embroidery by @dkg9242

Sometimes you just need to take a little space. Our teen learning center moved the comfy room to a new space and it just didn't feel cozy enough. Ten and a half yards of ridiculously wide fabric, some problem solving, and a consult with my Mommy later, we have a warm, inviting nook. #askyourmom #current_ec #selfcare #sewingproject by @dkg9242

What started as a thrifted vintage stationery set, ended as a saturation of spring color (pic of materials at the end.) I pulped the envelopes to make the yellow book board and played around with a beading pattern inspired by an antique design manual, leaving the floral pattern of the sheets to spice up the pages inside. Happily, I finished just in time for Mother's Day and was able to give it to my Mom in person. ❤️ #bookart #bookbindingart #upcycleart #beadwork #mothersday by @dkg9242

Hospital embroidery, pt. 3: the white bits. There is a wide array of consumable items in a hospital room, for wiping every possible surface. I took a representative sample of each and combined them into the above.

3rd pic shows materials: (clockwise from bottom) soft skin wipe, alcohol swab with bonus silver foil wrapper, the floss I brought, gauze pads, and a surface sanitizing wipe with an embossed diamond pattern. #embroideryart #embroidery #upcycleart #hospitalart #usewhatyouhave by @dkg9242

Hospital upcycle embroidery, part 2: the plastic bits. Thankfully, caps and plugs and strips come in a variety of colors. A different roll of leftover tape gave a nice texture for the "fabric," but made for gummy, goopy stitching. #embroideryart #upcycleart #hospital #hospitalart #beautyinunexpectedplaces by @dkg9242

As we spent a month in the hospital with an older loved one (who's doing much better, by the way!) I began to notice little materials left by the wayside and decided to turn them into something beautiful. This little sashiko piece is stitched into a "fabric" I made from a leftover roll of tape. This is 1 of 3 pieces I created- two more to come! #sashiko #upcycleart #embroidery #hospitalart #joyinhardplaces by @dkg9242

One of my coding students made a very cool graphic design during a random variable lesson. He printed it out and I turned it into a book for his mom! #codingart #bookbinding #bookart @processingorg by @dkg9242

Most of my projects start with my picking up a random material and seeing what I can do with it. In this case, it was noticing that my bead hoard contained many shades of green. So the first element I created was the central rectangle, and the rest was design problem solving with stops at cabochon beading, precision paper cutting and picky-picky gluing. Not shown: the absolute butcher job I did trying to trim page edges. 😭 #bookbinding #bookart #bookbindingart #green #seedbeads by @dkg9242

A friend gifted me some of her craft supplies and this gorgeous red stone medallion was among them. Some thrifted black paper and beads from a thrifted necklace later, and we have just the right amount of drama. Special thanks to the first warm sunny spring day! #bookart #bookbindingart #upcycleart #thrifting #springhassprung by @dkg9242

Moms + crafting = PhD Thesis. Share your voice and experience! I participated and had a lovely conversation with Christina, who is passionate about her subject. NOTE: Interviews last no more than an hour- "2 hours" is a misprint. #momsofinstagram #momlifeisthebestlife #crafting #momswhocraft #artsandcraftshome #artsandcrafts by @dkg9242

Unbelievable afternoon! It's really rare that I can take advantage of "snow day" mode, but today I'm in my happy place with beauty outside and warmth and a very green project inside. #gratefulheart #contented #bookbinding #bookbindingart #theexpanseshow by @dkg9242

When your kids are deep into board games and you need a unique gift. I needed a hand sewing project, so I hand embroidered beanies of the characters. #ledergamesroot #ledergames #factions #handsewing #embroidery by @dkg9242
