Are you a doctor or health professional concerned about the spread of misinformation on social media but don’t know where to begin?

It all starts with SHOWing UP!

Together with @dramyperkins @kaitlynkaps @dranesiatania @daphnekknows @juliusggatmaitan @bonniehodge.md @draseemsharmamd this is what we want you to know about combatting #viral misinformation!

SHOW UP is an acronym created through a multidisciplinary collaboration between @daphnekknows @docteur.chelle @labmuffinbeautyscience and @theecowell and inspired by posts and presentations by @drsalaswhalen and @dr.lisa.byrom

As a wife of a melanoma survivor, mother of two and a skin cancer GP, I am going to continue recommending and using sun protection including:
🧴 Minimum SPF30+ sunscreen
👕 UPF clothing
👒 Broad brim hat
🕶️ Sunglasses
⛱️ Shade where possible

Let’s spread the word by creating your own reel “as a …, I am going to continue recommending and using…”

Tag someone below who needs to get involved in sharing the importance of sun protection!

Not sponsored but if you’re wondering what we are wearing, check out these brands who make being sun safe easy, practical, convenient and if I say so myself pretty trendy too!
Hats: @solbari
UPF shirts: @rb_sellars and @solandtide.co

Thanks for helping suggest we start this trend @labmuffinbeautyscience !

From Messina, bubble tea and matcha dates as well as sessions in the pathology department to research presentations and posters at the Australian and New Zealand Dermatopathology Conference held last weekend in Brisbane, I could not be prouder of these bright young colleagues and their hard work! Such an honour to work alongside you all.

The future of medicine and research is looking bright! 💛

1. Dr Archa Gamage and Dr Jessica Bulluss presenting “The Great Scalp Impersonator: an extensive scalp plaque mimicking primary cutaneous B cell lymphoma”
2. Dr Tiana Tambyrajah and Dr Louise Killen presenting “Forgotten but not gone: a case report of pruritic papular eruption in HIV”
3. (Soon to be) Dr Linda Liu presenting “When blistering diseases forget to read the textbook”

Thank you to the broader MDT who assisted in these cases.

It’s been over 10 years since I’ve had hair this short but in need of a change, my sister-in-law recommended I look in to seeing if I could donate my hair. All you need is a minimum length of 20cm of hair and you could help provide hair to make a wig for children with cancer through @kidswithcancerfoundation ! Not that you need a reason to look glamorous getting a bob but if you do I’d say I have found you one 💇🏻‍♀️

Thank you @dk_haileyy and @dk_hairstudio for making it so easy! by @docteur.chelle

What a fun weekend watching @posportsphysio look after the @centralcoastrhinosofficial ice hockey team as we lived out one of our favourite childhood movies “The Mighty Ducks”. A different animal but go Rhinos!!!! 🦏 by @docteur.chelle

A little late to post this but a couple of weekends ago, I had the pleasure of being flown to Brisbane by @bupaaustralia for less than 24 hours to run two workshops on “Combatting #viral misinformation in the consulting room” at their Annual Clinician Conference.

It was such a wonderful opportunity to meet with clinicians from various disciplines to discuss the misinformation that is infiltrating our consultations and the steps we can take to debunk myths. Thanks for inviting me Dr Janice Tan and the team from Bupa!

Key messages:
👂Listen to the patient’s concerns
🧐 Explore the (mis)information and the source of the information
🥪 Use the truth sandwich - lead with the truth, mention the falsehood and reiterate the truth
💬 Keep the conversation open so that your patients can come to you with their questions

Such a thoughtful and sweet drawing from one of our selective students! Thanks for being such a wonderful addition to the Dermatology Team for the past 4 weeks!

Wishing you all the best for exams and internship! I know you’ll be a fantastic addition to the medical community wherever you end up (but of course I hope it’s with us)! 🩵 #medicaleducation #dermatologyclinic by @docteur.chelle

Did you know that Australian health professionals (doctors, nurses, physios, dentists etc.) can’t advertise therapeutic goods including sunscreens to the public? Even though it is ok in other countries?

I got to chat to Dr @lmcabbott at the recent @acderm ASM about what our legal responsibilities are.

This #sunsafesunday post in #melanomaawarenessmonth is brought to you direct from the Australasian College of Dermatologists Annual Scientific Meeting, where I got to speak to a number of Dermatology Trainees and Dermatologists about the little known facts about melanoma.

Special thanks to @lorealaunz for letting us film at your stand and for keeping many Aussies sun safe and sun-protected all year round. But remember sunscreen is just one form of sun protection, don’t forget to slip on UPF clothing, slap on a hat, slide on some sunnies and seek shade where possible.

This week is #nationalfamiliesweek - an opportunity to celebrate every family everywhere (including the ones who dance to baby shark together 🙈).

Two years ago our youngest spent 15 days in hospital with 5 days in the children’s ICU in Sydney and then a further 7 days in the respiratory ward. At a stressful and emotional time, we were so blessed to be able to stay close to Z at @ronaldmcdonaldhousesyd during his hospital admission.

So this week, I am participating in the @danceforsickkids challenge so that another family can stay close to their child whilst they receive medical care in hospital. My goal is to raise enough to provide accommodation for 7 nights at @ronaldmcdonaldhousegws (which was the length of our stay). Currently with your help, we have managed to provide 4 nights of accommodation, 35 hot meals and 33 school lessons for sick kids! 3 more nights to go!

Today, every donation gets doubled so if you haven’t already, will you consider supporting this wonderful cause to help another family in need?

Today kicks off the start of the @danceforsickkids challenge so this is your little reminder to get your wiggle on as we raise funds for @ronaldmcdonaldhousegws !

Get inspired by L the real groover (not me, for obvious reasons including the wardrobe malfunction - check out the whole video to see when it happens)!

Huge shout out to @luanmarr and the Indrajaja family for helping donate a night of accommodation to a family in need.

It’s not too late to donate but I would say get a wiggle on! https://www.danceforsickkids.com/fundraisers/rochelleoei-hicks/dance-for-sick-kids-2026
