Dark money enters Brevard Race!

ATTENTION FLORIDA!

A major national political organization, the 1776 Project, has just dropped $150,000 into local school board elections. How it’s being used:

$75,000 is slated for use in attack campaigns against candidates Kyle Savage and Michelle McCormick in a direct attempt to install hand-picked “Moms for Liberty” allies.

$75,000 is targeting Hillsborough County.

This massive influx of national dark money is an attempt to override our community’s voice. As “Moms for Liberty” continues to lose momentum locally, out-of-state interest groups are pouring thousands of dollars into targeted attack campaigns to prop up candidates like Jean Trent—whose campaign relies on heavy backing from charter school interests rather than everyday residents.

By contrast, Kyle Savage’s campaign is fueled by grassroots support from hundreds of everyday community members, along with the backing of the Florida Education Association, which views his race against Jean Trent as the most critical school board contest in the entire state.

We cannot let deep-pocketed national PACs buy our school board.

Here is how you can help right now:

Spread the Word: Share this update on social media and talk to your neighbors. Let’s make it clear that our community decides who leads our schools—not outside interest groups.

Support Grassroots Candidates: Consider donating or volunteering to help offset this huge dump of opposition cash. Every small donor helps us push back against outside influence.

Pledge Your Vote: Make sure your vote-by-mail status is updated, or mark your calendar for early voting and Election Day.

Our teachers, students, and community deserve leadership focused on education—not national political agendas. Thank you for standing with us to keep our schools focused on what truly matters.

✅ I promise to stand against efforts to divert taxpayer dollars to un-vetted private interests, allowing public education to be fully accountable to the communities it serves.

Shoutout to Representative Jacob Rosecrants, House District 46 in Oklahoma, for signing the Pledge to Protect Public Schools!

As a former public school teacher, Rep. Rosecrants continues to stand up for our students, teachers, and local libraries. He recently authored and passed the Oklahoma Play to Learn Act (HB 1569), which empowers early childhood educators to teach with play in their classrooms.

We are proud to see leaders loudly championing public education!

Before Moms for Liberty became a national name, there was a local school board race.

In 2020, RFS endorsed Jennifer Jenkins, and she won a seat on the Brevard County School Board, defeating Tina Descovich, who later co-founded Moms for Liberty.

Jenkins went on to become a prominent voice on public education and faced protests, threats, and harassment during her time in office.

Her story is a reminder that debates over education policy that eventually become national stories often begin much closer to home: at local school board meetings and local elections. by @dofdnational
