The Components of the Fine Tuned Heel with Ambrosia the SDIT 🦮

Not in order or importance, but instead just where they show up in our video! Ambrosia is still in training so does get many rewards throughout the video while we are building her reinforcement history!

1. Relaxed body and happy tail: The MOST important when it comes to any training, we want our dogs happy, relaxed, and having fun! Dogs that are tense or showing stress signals are telling us they are uncomfortable and are less likely to be successful with our training in obedience commands

2. Rear End Awareness: good rear end awareness helps our dogs be able to swing into our heel and stay in position more easily while navigating obstacles

3. Auto Check Ins: without focus we have nothing! We want our dogs to engage with us on their own, that way we’re not just begging for their attention!

4. Can Find Heel Position On Their Own: Essential for heeling! How can we expect our dogs to stay in a heel if they can’t find the position on their own in the first place?

5. Slack In The Leash: By giving them that extra leash length they can prove to us they know what they’re doing on their own, and that it isn’t just the leash keeping them next to us! If there’s slack in the leash it’s showing that they are doing it all on their own!

6. Stops When We Stop: Not only does this show they’re paying attention to us, but also helps prevent forging ahead, tripping on our dogs, or them just getting in the way! We can add auto sits to our stops, but for me I’m just happy with stopping when I do and we adjust expectations for each team!

It’s officially official! I have PASSED my accreditation exam and am officially an International Association of Animal Behavior Consultants Accredited Dog Trainer! (IAABC-ADT)

From the IAABC website: “The IAABC accredited credential indicates a trainer with a sound foundation in the principles and practices of animal training as well as the ability to apply this skill set to a wide range of behavior issues.”

This mean I have proven to my peers and the IAABC that I am competent and successful utilizing LIMA and R+ training methodologies as well as have a working knowledge of learning science, animal husbandry, training techniques, assessment, and history taking skills!

This is a huge accomplishment in my career and I am so insanely proud to be able to say I have been able to achieve this to prove my skills and knowledge to both my current and future clients ❤️

Welcome Miss Willow and her humans to our Owner Train Service Dog Program! 🫶🏻

Willow had an amazing first lesson with me yesterday where she showed off all her smarts, including some evil genius moments, and also gave all the love and snuggles that a fluffy girl like her could give! She is only 14 weeks old currently so we will be working on all things puppy and foundations that will set her up for success in service work while still just letting this little girl be the baby herder she is! 🤗💕

Make sure to go follow her over on her dog-stagram @willowettatheaussie

Richard's First Day of School 🐾🐕

Little Richard is 7 months old and we will be working on all things foundations for sport dog puppy and being a good little poodle citizen! Today was just getting comfy at the house, including lots of play, snuggles, snacks, and some very patient older girls to help show him the way! 🫶🏻

It's always spooky season around here! 🪄🧙‍♀️

Did you know that Salem is actually pretty pet friendly? Our favorite pet friendly store is @blackcraftsalem of course, but we also enjoyed shopping at @circlestitches and stretching on the pet friendly patio at @bitbarsalem

Not every store is pet friendly, but they are clearly marked when they don't allow dogs which helps remove some of the guesswork!

We love our Farmer's Market training! 🥦🥒🐾

Miss Penny here is a very unique German Shepherd who has a genetic mutation that causes her to not have normal GSD fur! However she absolutely has some normal GSD nerviness so today we worked on some busy place desentization by hanging around right outside the farmers market and only going in when she was comfy and ready to take treats! Building up some solid confidence, comfort in the chaos, and engagement with her humans all at once with some very tasty beef liver 🙌🏻
