I went out of my comfort zone by doing 4 weeks of ECC and it was a huge blessing in disguise. The doctors and the rest of the team were so incredibly supportive and pushed me in the best way to grow. I had fun, worked up interesting cases that I will never forget, and had a lot of firsts on this rotation.

I am so grateful for the memories and for the opportunities to work alongside some amazing specialists, ER doctors, and interns. This rotation changed my life and served as the foundation for the rest of the year.

I am eternally grateful for MedVet SV!

Having neuro as my first rotation of 4th year was the best decision that I made for my future and such a fun way to start off the year! ✨🧠✨

Neurology has such a special place in my heart because of my two dogs. 🐾🪽 My first dog was the reason why I chose to switch my career path to Veterinary Medicine very late in undergrad and seeing so many GSDs come through with neurologic signs reminded me of my second dog before she passed. This rotation was a full circle moment and although they are both no longer with me, I gained clarity and a greater appreciation for the speciality.

It was a short rotation, but it truly exceeded my expectations and I am beyond thankful for the knowledge and opportunities. My preceptor is a neuro queen and I am forever grateful for her mentorship! 👑

𝐍𝐞𝐮𝐫𝐨 𝐑𝐨𝐭𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐌𝐞𝐦𝐨𝐫𝐢𝐞𝐬:
• Lots of neuro exams & localized lesions
• Scrubbed into a few hemilaminectomies and sutured closed
• Myringotomy
• Ultrasound practice for staging
• Observed lots of MRIs and CSF taps
• Assisted with canine rehab once a week
• All the cool cases: Meningioma, Cerebellar Abiotrophy, FIP… 🥹🖤, Meningitis, Fly Biting Syndrome, Trigeminal Neuritis, Myelomalacia, MNST, Vestibular Disease, Degenerative Myelopathy, and of course… IVDD!

There were a lot of firsts for me during that block and looking back on it now, I can see how much growth there was in such a short amount of time. I had the best time learning and I am so thankful for all of the experiences.

𝐌𝐢𝐱𝐞𝐝 𝐚𝐧𝐢𝐦𝐚𝐥 𝐛𝐥𝐨𝐜𝐤 𝐦𝐞𝐦𝐨𝐫𝐢𝐞𝐬:

• Explored lab animal medicine at Stanford
• Became an exotics girl for the first time ever and saw some cool cases

It is time to catch up on the rest of my 3rd year posts. A whole school year went by…OOPS! 😅 I had so much fun on each rotation though and I can’t believe that 4th year starts in a few days!!!

I started off my 3rd year with the on-campus rotations. I spent 8 weeks learning about epidemiology with my friends (survived the pivot tables & promoted egg safety 🫡🥚) and made memories outside of the classroom that I will never forgot.

I also gave my 3rd year presentation on FIP in cheetahs and related it back to domestic cats. FIP holds a very special place in my heart and is the reason why I am still passionate about pursuing Feline Medicine. It has intrigued me for years as a pre-vet and it still does as an aspiring feline practitioner.

It was truly a full circle moment and serves as a little reminder of how far I have come. I am excited for the future and all of the pawsibilities! 💫

𝐘𝐞𝐚𝐫 𝟐 𝐨𝐟 𝐯𝐞𝐭 𝐬𝐜𝐡𝐨𝐨𝐥 ☑️

Vet school is going by so fast, but I’m proud to have made it this far and thankful for my amazing support system. I completed my last year of PBL, gained more experiences with different species, and became a cat mom.

Another year is about to start and I’m so excited for my 3rd year rotations!

As happy as I was to go home for summer break, I wasn’t ready to say goodbye so suddenly. She was always by my side ever since I made the decision to pursue vet med. She got me through the hardest, yet rewarding years of my life — all of my surgeries, the late nights in undergrad and post bac, 2 rounds of applying to vet schools, the launch of my small business, and the first half of vet school.

I’m glad that I had a chance to celebrate this milestone with her before saying goodbye even though it was for a moment. It has been extremely hard lately, but I have a greater appreciation for this journey and I’m motivated to keep going because of her. ♡

𝐘𝐞𝐚𝐫 𝟏 𝐨𝐟 𝐯𝐞𝐭 𝐬𝐜𝐡𝐨𝐨𝐥 ☑️

This post is extremely overdue and I feel guilty for being MIA, but I just couldn’t get myself to post anything when I wasn’t ready. I wanted to document my first year experiences, thoughts, and emotions on this account, but life got crazy and I struggled… A LOT.

My first year of vet school pushed me in ways that I never imagined, but I also learned so much from it. Imposter syndrome hit me SO INCREDIBLY HARD. Once I realized that I needed to stop doubting myself, I released every negative thought that I had. More importantly, I constantly reminded myself to not only trust the process, but to also trust myself.

I strived to improve, asked for help when I needed it, surrounded myself with a strong support system, and made it my priority to put myself first in every aspect of my life. It all paid off because I ended my first year mentally and emotionally happier than I’ve ever been.

This summer was a blessing and it made me truly appreciate my year of growth. I honestly feel so alive because of it. One day I’ll look back on all of this and fall in love with the ups and downs again… But until then, I’m ready for Year 2! ✨

If you made it this far with me (especially when I was a little baby pre-vet), I just wanted to stay thank you for sticking around. ♡

Back to PBL tomorrow so… Byeee✌🏼

My white coat ceremony was a huge milestone for me and to be completely honest… I’m still soaking it all in. 🥺

I got emotional at one point because it hit me that I’m 𝐟𝐢𝐧𝐚𝐥𝐥𝐲 in vet school and pursuing my dream! It was such a surreal moment and it made me realize how much hard work, dedication, and perseverance it took to get to where I am today. I’m forever grateful!

✨ Never underestimate the power of remaining resilient! ✨

Now that I’ve completed my first week of vet school, I’m feeling so many emotions all at once. It has been a crazy adjustment for me, but it’s truly a blessing to be here with some amazing people. ♡

Swipe for some first week memories.

back to studying. kbye. ☺️

𝐒𝐞𝐞 𝐲𝐨𝐮 𝐬𝐨𝐨𝐧, 𝐖𝐞𝐬𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐧𝐔! ❤️

After making the difficult decision to say goodbye to my pup shortly after adopting her in 2012, I decided to switch my career path in the middle of college and pursue my childhood dream. Every year since then was a milestone in my pre-vet journey that I’ll cherish for the rest of my life. I’d sit next to her memorial and reflect on how much I’ve grown and what I’ve learned along the way.

This year’s visit was extra special and I cried happy tears. I used to believe that it was impossible for me to get to this point because of my failures and rejections. Looking back on my entire pre-vet journey… Nothing is truly impossible when you make a plan, work hard, trust the process, and never give up on yourself.

I started this account in 2017 as @mylifeasaprevet to document my gap years and I’m glad that I chose to keep it even though my first application cycle was unsuccessful. I hit my rock bottom during that time, but shoutout to the 2018 #failforwardcampaign! I’ve met so many amazing people through this account over the years and the veterinary community continues to grow, which is absolutely incredible!

My path was extremely nontraditional and full of unexpected surprises, but it was all worth it because I’m starting vet school in a few weeks! WesternU had my heart from the very beginning of this journey and it’s crazy how everything happens for a reason. If you made it this far with me, I just wanted to say thank you for sticking around. 🥰

The next 4 years will be challenging, but I’m ready for what’s ahead and I can’t wait to share more of my life with you. ♡

𝙸𝚝’𝚜 𝚗𝚎𝚟𝚎𝚛 𝚝𝚘𝚘 𝚕𝚊𝚝𝚎 𝚝𝚘 𝚌𝚑𝚊𝚜𝚎 𝚢𝚘𝚞𝚛 𝚍𝚛𝚎𝚊𝚖 ☁️

For so many years, I used to think that I was supposed to follow a timeline where I’d go to vet school and become a vet 𝙗𝙚𝙛𝙤𝙧𝙚 I turn 30. I’m not sure where I got that from, but after getting rid of that expectation and letting go of things that are beyond my control, I’ve been enjoying my journey and appreciating every moment. I turned 29 a few days ago (swapped out a party hat for a mask this year) and I’m finally at peace with myself because I’m no longer fixated on that unrealistic timeline. Age is just a number and it’s never too late to chase your dream.

My pre-vet journey has been a wild rollercoaster ride, but through it all, I’ve learned that my journey is what makes me unique. I’m in a better headspace now and it’s amazing what a year of growth and perseverance can lead to. 🌱✨

☑️ Completed my post bac
☑️ Became a mentor in my post bac
☑️ Retook the GRE *online*
☑️ Reapplied to vet schools
☑️ Received an abundance of blessings

If you’ve been following my journey for a while, I just wanted to say thank you and I hope that you’re doing well. ♡

Here’s to another year of new experiences, prioritizing mental health, more cats, and being one step closer to my dream. 🥺🐾💫

𝙼𝚞𝚝𝚝𝚟𝚒𝚕𝚕𝚎 𝚂𝚎𝚗𝚒𝚘𝚛 𝙳𝚘𝚐 𝚁𝚎𝚜𝚌𝚞𝚎 💛

After hearing about Muttville through a friend, I fell in love with everything about the rescue and never imagined the impact that it would have on me. Senior dogs are given a second chance at life through the amazing work of the Muttville staff and their volunteers.

After being rescued, they receive veterinary care on site and lots of love while waiting in a cage-free facility to be adopted. Many of the dogs require follow up appointments due to various health conditions, so when they were adopted, it warmed my heart to see them back at Muttville with their new family. It was truly an eye opening experience for me and gave rise to some of the future career goals that I have.

From being surrendered to surviving Hurricane Harvey and the California Wildfires, every dog has a story. This non-profit rescue has changed the lives of so many senior dogs and humans, including mine. ♡

Appreciate the 𝕝𝕚𝕥𝕥𝕝𝕖 things in life.

I was going through my phone and realized how fast time flies by after looking at this picture. If you’ve been following me for a while, I talked about my experience with this little one and never imagined that a TINY kitten would make such a BIG impact in my life. 🤍🥺

I’m all in my feelings today, so here are some tiny kitten appreciation photos and the cutest 𝚔𝚒𝚝𝚝𝚎𝚗 𝚙𝚞𝚛𝚛𝚒𝚝𝚘 that I meant to post... Two years ago! 😅

I started this account anonymously back in 2017 to document my life as a pre-vet. I chose to remain anonymous for 3 years because of my fear of failure. After experiencing so many instances of failure in my life, I became my own worst enemy and questioned my future of becoming a vet.

𝕊𝕡𝕠𝕚𝕝𝕖𝕣 𝔸𝕝𝕖𝕣𝕥 : I’m a non-traditional vet school applicant that overcame a low GPA.

Fast forward to 2019, I was able to pick myself back up and never lost sight of my goal. It took a lot of hard work, determination, perseverance, and caffeine, but I overcame my failures.

Now that it’s 2020, I’m no longer afraid or ashamed of my failures. My failures fueled my motivation for the past 3 years to get to where I am today and I’m extremely grateful! Overall, I’ve learned to embrace my journey for what it is and that hard work truly does pay off.

I’ve been inspired by so many incredible people on IG to share my struggles and to help other pre-vets that are dealing with similar situations. If you’ve experienced failure along your journey, just know that you’re not alone. 🤍

So here’s to the start of a new beginning and I can’t wait to share some exciting news with you all very soon! 🥺🐾

𝔸 𝕝𝕚𝕥𝕥𝕝𝕖 𝕒𝕓𝕠𝕦𝕥 𝕞𝕪𝕤𝕖𝕝𝕗 :
• I’m from the Bay Area in California

• I’m a sucker for Law & Order SVU marathons *DUN DUN*
• Self care days include: taking naps, doing my nails, binge watching Netflix shows, and playing The Sims
