met jake vaadeland and some other angels 🏇🐄 by @domhallberg.filthyguitarplayer

I really enjoyed the explicit structure of preparing for the studio. We recorded my latest single In The Kitchen (out now) and the upcoming EP Rolling Along 🍂(coming soon) For the stage, I knew I wanted rehearsals to be a different story.
A big part of this project is about learning from others. While I knew the vibe, set pieces, lighting and set list for the show I didn’t prearrange arrangements (hehe). I wanted to tell my friends (Dom and Jordyn) the story behind each song and have us run through the chart as openly as possible. When I tell you that first rehearsal was righteous… man oh man the sound was what dreams are made of. Dom Hallberg and I have been playing together for many years now and I’ve admired her for even longer (club sofa 5eva). What she brought to my originals made me giggle with glee, made my heart swirl and my soul twirl. Jordyn Lemire and I met through SIEKSI (love u🧚‍♀️) years ago and have started gigging together recently. I even take tap lessons from her (secret lifelong dream). Man oh man what she added was so tasteful and delightful it made my imagination flutter and satisfied my dancing bones even as I sat in a chair. The trio was born. We have arrived. I can’t wait to show you all, my gems, the love and friendship and compassion we have to share with you through storytelling, music and dance and multimedia!!!!
I’m getting excited guys. This is a dream come true, I couldn’t be more blessed or happy.

read if you like Vancouver History and/or me ✨

Thinking a lot recently about my identity and what it means to be an artist in Vancouver, more specifically how it really feels to wonder, “Do I belong? Is my life sustainable here?”. There’s a sense of irony to my feelings, because my heritage in Vancouver is with the Sḵwx̱wú7mesh and Portuguese community that lived in Stanley Park. Residents of Whoi Whoi, Kanaka Ranch, and Brockton Point were evicted for “squatting” on “crown land”, later on in 1931 their homes were burnt down by the VFD. If you didn’t know, a common reason for the government to evict indigenous people from their land was the belief that they couldn’t tell time; their oral history did not matter and continues to not matter to the city of Vancouver. Fast-forward to now and I am living in East Van, trying to chase my dreams of making enough money teaching and playing music to live as close as possible to my ancestors. It’s not easy to live in the most expensive city in Canada, but for me it means everything.
All this to say: if you’ve hired me in the past few years as a teacher, session musician, or bandleader, thank you :)

I’m in the process of building a website so that I can continue to build my life around my dream. Thanks for reading!
