POSTS STORIES REELS

I made a video about my musical adventures last year. 13 mins is a long time to ask of anyone these days… but if you find yourself on a slow commute home, or standing in a long queue waiting for mince pies do have a watch/listen. X

“Peat Lanterns” - D Grant

Nuair Bha Mi Og” (When I Was Young)
by Màiri Mhòr Nan Òran”

“a’ falabh sa gheamhradh gu luaidh is bainnsean
gun solas lainnteir ach ceann an fhòid ;
bhiodh òigridh greannmhor ri ceòl is dannsa,
ach dh’fhalbh an t-àm sin, ‘s tha ‘n glean fo bhròn”

(“Going in winter to waulkings and weddings,
with no lantern light but the end of a peat;
there were merry young people, with music and dancing,
but that time has gone, and the glen is gloomy.”)

Wishing you warmth and light in the New Year 🕯️

Here we go!!

Super excited to go on tour next month with something completely different 👀

Earlier this year I was co-commissioned by @kingsplacelondon and @chambermusicscotland to write a piece for piano, violin and cello, and I’ll be taking this around the UK with the amazing Tristan Gurney on violin and @juliettelemoinecello on cello. There’ll be a couple of other surprises in the concert as well…

I really really enjoyed the process of writing this piece - there’s no improvising at all so it meant I could write and plan what would happen in a completely different way.

I’m super happy with the result, and so hope to share it with you on one of the upcoming dates - for now, enjoy this little teaser played incredibly by @donaldgrantmusic and @sualeecello

Donald Grant & Fergus McCreadie

Mad for this tune 😍

Full performance on YouTube 🎥 → link just down there… ⬇️

“The magic – and there was plenty of it – was that the duo’s movements between and through these styles and eras felt not just perfectly natural but positively inspired. Fergus McCreadie and Donald Grant have found a uniquely Scottish way of often transcending these categories whilst at other times acknowledging them with the utmost clarity… when it came to the end of a mesmerising 70-minute set the audience rose to their feet and demanded an encore…”

Look away if you don’t like dogs (and don’t come back 🤣)

Adventures in the Mournes, Northern Ireland.

What a place. Walks, beaches, fires, tents, hills, swims, Guinness and the most excellent company.

Great to catch up with the gorgeous @mourne.cmf gang - run by @orla.mc.g of @talland.quartet. Sad to miss the gigs! Catch a concert if you can.

Ralph ❤️

(Thanks to Jamie and @ruthnelson90 for the loan!)

And big shout to @birch_coffee_ for excellent flat whites and hospitality.
