One year ago was when I took the leap. If you’re sitting there wondering what it’s like on the other side, here’s my experience after leaving my soul-sucking corporate job. by @donercreative

Kathryn Doner dropped by Canvas this weekend with a fantastic new painting — and brought along her son Henry, who was more than happy to strike a pose with Mom. 😊
Her new piece, “New River Beach,” is a big, fresh abstract filled with layers of aqua, deep green, lime and softer peachy neutrals. We love the way Kathryn combines bold graphic shapes with looser, painterly areas — there’s lots going on, but the whole piece still feels remarkably calm.
Kathryn’s background in graphic design definitely comes through in her strong sense of colour and composition, while her inspiration from nature keeps the work feeling organic rather than overly precise.
And one of the best things about this piece — it looks terrific both vertically and horizontally, as you can see in the photos. A completely different feeling depending on which way you hang it.
