Link in Bio… by @donnieraimon

In this first episode of Inside VectorLab, I’m showing how we turned your smartphone into a smart plumb line, complete with digital reference lines, built-in guidance, and error guardrails to help you capture consistent measurements.
No more hanging strings. No extra equipment. Just one of the many tools we’ve built into VectorLab.

Your smartphone now contains a complete set of smart tools.

These two graphics are some of the most commonly used to define biomechanics. They show its roots in medicine, biology, physics, and engineering. Yet, most biomechanics courses barely touch these areas, and many are taught by individuals who haven’t even studied them.

If biomechanics is built on these disciplines, shouldn’t those teaching it actually understand them or even know they exist? Nobel Laureate Richard Feynman has often said there’s a difference between knowing a word and understanding what the word means…

Swipe to see 15 key terms that apply to both biomechanics and engineering, terms you should know if you truly want to master human movement.

This isn’t just theory, it’s “real biomechanics” the way it was meant to be taught.

The VectorLab assessment was compiled from a 𝘀𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗻-𝗺𝗼𝗻𝘁𝗵 𝗹𝗶𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗮𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗲 𝗿𝗲𝘃𝗶𝗲𝘄 𝗹𝗲𝗱 𝗯𝘆 𝗮 𝗣𝗵𝗗 𝗺𝗲𝗰𝗵𝗮𝗻𝗶𝗰𝗮𝗹 𝗲𝗻𝗴𝗶𝗻𝗲𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝗳𝗲𝘀𝘀𝗼𝗿, using full university library access and including 8 textbooks and more than 1,000 research papers.

We didn’t just ask which measurements should be included. We also questioned whether the measurements themselves were mechanically sound.

For example, if the rib cage moves during shoulder flexion, that motion matters. If the pelvis moves during a spinal measurement, that matters too.

So instead of assuming those segments stay perfectly still, we measure the compensatory motion and account for it.

When we built VectorLab, we revisited every measurement again. This is a newer, updated version of the assessment @donnieraimon has taught previously.

Chris Paul and Aja Wilson’s strength trainer, Donnie Raimon, explaining what goes on with many players’ knees.

Being educated, or having a trainer who is educated, on this matter is crucial to stay healthy over the course of long seasons. by @donnieraimon

The differences are very minor when it comes to “body types.”

We hear the narrative that a type of training won’t work for “my body” or “his body”

When in reality, it does work.

But all of the details may not be followed.

And this is the difference between having results with a single or small group of players versus hundreds.

Pay attention to the details. by @donnieraimon

There are many variations of this story and despite being around for a long long time it’s still used by consultants all over the world..
The engine of a very large ship suddenly stopped. Despite a team of engineers, mechanics, and experts working day and night weeks passed with no result. The owners were losing $45,000 a day!
Eventually, they were recommended an older retired gentlemen who used to work at the dock. The old man slowly made his way to the engine room with his small bag of tools. He examined the engine for a few minutes, reached in his bag, pulled out a very small hammer, and gently tapped a small valve. The engine roared to life instantly. The next week the owners received a bill for $10,000. The owners were furious. $10,000? He was only here for 15 minutes. The accountants asked for an itemized bill. They received a revised invoice; hammer tap - $2.00. Knowing where to tap - $9,998.
From the outside, to the mechanics, engineers, experts, and owners it didn’t appear that the old man did anything special. But the fact is, no one could do what he did because no one could see what he saw. His vast experience was the key and in reality he saved the owners many more thousands of dollars! by @donnieraimon

This is the first book you should read as your introduction to Biomechanics. It gives a brief introduction to the fundamental topics involved, crucial to understanding how the human body and its components work. by @donnieraimon

I’ve been fortunate to learn from some incredible people over the course of my career, and one of the biggest influences on how I assess and train clients has been @donnieraimon

What stood out wasn’t just the exercises—it was learning to think differently about human movement. To look beyond symptoms, understand how the body functions as a system, and build training around biomechanics rather than trends.

That philosophy continues to shape how I work with every client today.

If you’re a coach, trainer, clinician, or someone passionate about helping people move better, I highly recommend checking out what Donnie and the team at @joinvectorlab are building.

Always grateful to keep learning.
