27 🎈
𝐚𝐧 𝐨𝐛𝐢𝐭𝐮𝐚𝐫𝐲 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐛𝐨𝐲 𝐢 𝐮𝐬𝐞𝐝 𝐭𝐨 𝐛𝐞

i spent most of my life becoming someone my younger self would feel safe with, only to realize i still don’t know how to feel safe myself.

i learned to be independent because people could leave. to be desirable because being loved never felt guaranteed. to achieve things because i thought being enough was something i had to prove.

and somehow, in trying to become someone worth staying for, i became someone who knew exactly how to survive being left.

the cruelest part of growing older isn’t losing people. it’s realizing how much of yourself you abandoned trying to keep them.

i used to think i’d have life figured out by now. instead, i have a life that looks better from the outside than it sometimes feels on the inside.

but maybe 27 isn’t about becoming someone new.

maybe it’s about finally allowing myself to exist without having to earn it.

i’ll take it from here. 🤍

maybe it’s grieving the person you were before you knew they could leave. the boy who believed love was enough. who thought being good would guarantee good things. who never imagined that surviving could change him so much.

I have been the person who was hurt, and sometimes, the person who did the hurting. there are decisions i would take back if time were kinder. there are apologies i will never receive, and some i may never get to give.

not because i want to go back, but because he deserved to experience so much of life without having to be so brave.

yet here i am.

still collecting little moments of joy. still finding reasons to dress up, take photographs, laugh at something stupid, fall in love with places, and believe there is beauty left in ordinary afternoons.

You will love again the stranger who was yourself.
Give back your heart to itself,
to the stranger who has loved you
all your life, whom you ignored
for another,
who knows you by heart. by @dony.sty_
