“Hope for a future that you might not be able to see yet.” 🥹🏹

Ben Wang shares what The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping means to him and why the story is about more than tragedy.

Some characters will never see the sunrise they’re fighting for, but their sacrifices aren’t meaningless. 💔

What does hope mean to you in The Hunger Games?

What if a fantasy world was created to help a family cope with loss? 💔

At San Diego Comic-Con, author and filmmaker Abigail Hing Wen revealed the heartbreaking inspiration behind The Veil - Origins, a short-film prequel to her novel The Veil.

The story follows a family of inventors who create an AI-generated virtual fantasy world. But there’s a deeply personal reason behind its creation: after the family experiences a miscarriage, an elf in the virtual world becomes a surrogate brother to the main character.

It’s a reminder that even in worlds built with technology and imagination, the most powerful stories are often deeply human. ❤️

The director of IN WAVES wasn’t a surfer. She’d never lived in California. She bought the book by accident. 🌊📖

Phuong Mai Nguyen discovered AJ Dungo’s graphic memoir at Angoulême, France’s famed comics festival, after it won a prize — and bought it as a curious reader. Halfway through, she realized it was his true story: “There’s something very intimate about his book, but at the same time very universal.”

She didn’t think she was capable of adapting it. She did anyway. From the IN WAVES conversation at Netflix’s Tudum Theater — full story on Dorkaholics.com.

She baptized him into surfing at Huntington Beach. Years later, he bathed her as he ushered her out of this life. 🌊

AJ Dungo revealed at the IN WAVES conversation that the film’s Seattle and Portland road trip was built from his actual home videos — reference footage he handed to director Phuong Mai Nguyen. His verdict on what she did with them: “She did such a good job making my memories even more vivid.”

“Pathetic and creepy” — his words, not ours. 😅🌊

Watching your own love story on a theater screen is surreal enough. AJ Dungo told the Tudum Theater crowd that some IN WAVES moments bring Kristen back to life in a very real way — and others were “extremely embarrassing to relive, and humiliating.”

From our seat at the IN WAVES screening + conversation with Dungo and director Phuong Mai Nguyen. Full story on Dorkaholics.com.

The Japanese eyewear company JINS just opened their seventh US location at the Glendale Galleria and I was fortunate enough to be invited for the grand opening! I first knew about JINS for their anime collaborations such as with Jujutsu Kaisen and Chainsaw Man, but unfortunately I didn’t want to be the target of curses and fall in depression thinking about Denji’s heart (when no one else wants it). They also have collabs with individuals from different industries such as the hairstylist Takagi Takuya with glasses meant to complement different head shapes and hairstyles. And by walking through their store, I got to learn about the functional fashion technology in their frames. My favorite is their 360 tech that allows for multidirectional hinges since I’m often falling asleep with my glasses on and have ruined a few pairs when the hinges move in the wrong direction. In another video, I’ll show what frames I got yesterday. But I can tell you that they really mean it when they say they’ll be ready in 30 minutes. I was able to take a quick walk around the mall for a snack. And on a related note this weekend only, they’re having a JINS Pandan Matcha Latte available at @cafe_86 (in the same mall) that comes with a free scratch card with purchase. By the time I walked back to JINS, my frames were ready and pickup was super easy with their locker system involving scanning a QR code on my receipt.

🏀 “This game did not go according to plan.”

Director Gotham Chopra welcomed the first real theatrical audience to a friends-and-family screening of Portrait of an Artist: Stephen Curry, sharing how 21 IMAX cameras captured a single Steph Curry game.

They expected a typical Steph Curry performance. What happened instead made for an even better story.

Portrait of an Artist: Stephen Curry opens in IMAX theaters October 9.
