🇪🇺🎶 The Beethoven Frühling EU Composer Residency was officially presented at the House of the European Union in Vienna - a new initiative bringing together Beethoven’s legacy, contemporary European music and the historic places in Lower Austria that shaped Beethoven’s work.

The joint project was presented by artistic director Dorothy Khadem-Missagh @dorothykmpiano and H.E. Carl Hallergård, Ambassador of the European Union and Head of the Delegation of the European Union to the International Organisations in Vienna - @euinvienna

We are delighted to reveal outstanding French composer @benoit_menut as the first Composer in Residence. He was selected from high-calibre applications submitted from more than ten European countries.

The Residency is a joint initiative of Festival Beethoven Frühling and the Delegation of the European Union to the International Organisations in Vienna. During his Residency, Menut explored Beethoven sites in Baden, Mödling, Heiligenstadt and Gneixendorf and drew inspiration from these places for a new orchestral work.

The work will receive its world premiere on 20 May 2027 at the opening concert of Beethoven Frühling at Casino Baden, performed by the Beethoven Frühling Festival Orchestra under the direction of Dorothy Khadem-Missagh.

Baden has a special European resonance: Beethoven worked on his Ninth Symphony there - the “Ode to Joy” later became the European Anthem. Two hundred years after Beethoven’s death, this heritage becomes the starting point for new European creation.

Thank you to our hospitality partner @at_the_park_hotel and @motusquartet for the wonderful performance.
