Niamh Dalton is a multi-instrumentalist based in Cork City, Ireland. Fiddle being her main instrument, she sits within the Irish and Old-Time fiddle traditions as well as exploring extended technique, improvisation and experimenting with pedals and cross tunings. Her practice investigates ways of borrowing rhythmic bowing techniques found in old-time fiddle music and adapting them to create hypnotic drones and textures more at home in the worlds of ambient or modern experimental music than that of traditional song.

Operating under the name Ana Palindrome, her main project alongside bandmates Sara Leslie & Ruairí De Búrca combines fiddle, singing, electronics and rhythm section to create experimental, wonky pop tunes. She is a longstanding member of improvised music collective Trá Pháidín with 3 studio albums released to date. She is currently CRASH WORKS composer in residence with Crash Ensemble. She collaborates with Irish artists including Elaine Howley, David Murphy, Anna Mieke & Trick Mist.

Niamh Dalton plays Dali this Friday, 16th October, supporting Trick Mist. Tickets available via RA.

Trick Mist is Cork-based artist and multi instrumentalist musician Gavin Murray. His music channels traditional Irish music through an abstract prism conjuring a contemplative liminal landscape between reality and imagination. Shaped by a love of sean-nós singing, experimental sound processing, colloquial absurdist lyrics and the writings of Irish mystic John Moriarty his music forges an environment that is simultaneously familiar and transcendent.

The album ‘A Shimmering’ is out on @moot_tapes this Friday, 9th October. It emerged from a series of experiments teasing out notions of ‘abstract trad’ (digitally processing and expanding the range and function of trad-associated instruments and sean nós singing) and ‘primal electronica’ (soundscapes which reference electronica but which are made with acoustic instruments). Featuring collaborations with Dan Walsh (Fixity) and Niamh Dalton (Ana Palindrome), the album, inspired by the Irish mythological concept of ‘liminal space’, aims to subvert trad’s connection to the past instead telling cautionary tales about the future.

Trick Mist plays Dali next Friday, 16th October, accompanied by Dan Walsh and Niamh Dalton. Tickets available via RA.

DOSE x Celtic Utopia
08.11.25 8pm
The Kino

If you’ve been paying attention you already know all about it, but in true DOSE fashion we still wanted to bring you a pretty poster in the final run up. To celebrate the Irish premiere of Celtic Utopia at the Cork International Film Festival, DOSE presents a taste of the music giving a new identity to Irish culture, language and music. Bringing the film to the stage, join us to explore the sounds of the new Celtic realm. Post-rock-jazz-trad mutations from Trá Pháidín, industrial noise from Rising Damp, experimental accordion from Seamas Hyland and globehopping club music from Little O. Live visuals by Risteárd Ó hAodha and Joseph O’Neill.

The film Celtic Utopia is a portrait of Ireland’s vibrant folk music scene, carrying both the legacy of a colonial past and the dream of a bright future. You can catch the film before the gig, screening at 5pm in the Everyman, followed by a Q&A.
