CALLING ALL SPIDER MONKEYS ✨📣
Everything you need to know to make your own ✨ Scarf of a Killer ✨

The pattern for The Scarf of a Killer is here and available on Ravelry (The Scarf of a Killer by DottiesKnots). To make it, you will need:
🐀 2 skeins of fingering weight yarn in a lighter colour (I used Cascade 220 fingering weight in Indigo Frost Heather) (500m/100g)
🐀 2 skeins of fingering weight in a darker colour (I used Cascade 220 fingering weight in Midnight) (500m/100g)
🐀 1 spool of Drops Glitter in silver (optional, but fun!)
🐀 Needles! It can be knit on straight needles, but I recommend circulars as it makes the bind off easier. I used 2mm needles for my project (US 0).

A few people have also asked how you pick colours that will show up against each other- my top tip is to look at pictures of the colours you are using in black and white. If they are the same shades in greyscale, then you might want to pick colours with stronger contrast (our eyes perceive differences in lightness/darkness of colours more than between different tints).
I’ve loved seeing the different colour combos you’ve made so far! I’d love it if you tag me in photos of your projects so I can see what you’re making with it 🥹

I am also donating £1 per pattern sale until 28th February 2027 to the Quileute Tribe’s Move to Higher Ground project. So far, we have raised over $300 of donations. I will continue to pay these (roughly) quarterly, and evidence of donations will be posted on my stories and archived on a highlight for transparency. You can find more on this important cause here: https://mthg.org/

If you start now, you’ll have one ready for the next hoa hoa hoa season! ✨🐀

*Please note, there is a small variance between my test knit and the pattern, as I removed the tattoo motif and replaced it with a design of moon phases. As I learned more about the background of the series through the development of the scarf, I learned more about the exploitation of indigenous and native imagery, legend, and tradition (in particular in the tattoo), which I therefore decided was not right to include in the design. Unfortunately it was too late by this time to change it on the test knit. by @dottieknots

I am delighted to announce that my second pattern, The Spirit of the West scarf, is now live on my Ravelry (DottiesKnots).

This is for everyone who grew up dreaming of the sounds of hoofbeats, carrying mints in their pockets just in case, and whose birthday wish (every year) was for a pony of their own - whether or not that wish ever came true.

This scarf tells one of the most important and beloved tales of my childhood. It has been a labour of love not because it was difficult to make, but because I truly poured so much of my heart into the process. I hope that you love making this scarf as much as I loved making this pattern.

For the first year of sales, I will be donating £1 per pattern sold to the New Forest National Park Authority, to support their important work protecting the beautiful habitat there, and all its equine inhabitants.

Thank you all for supporting me during this journey. Happy knitting 🧶 🐴

Much love,

Dottie

Want to learn how to make colour work knitting, with no need to manage pesky floats? Look no further! Double knitting might be the perfect solution!
Double knitting is a deceptively simple technique in which you knit two pieces of fabric back to back at the same time, alternating between working on each side with every stitch. This creates lovely thick garments which can have gorgeous colourwork designs that are neat (and inversed) on each side, making it perfect for garments like scarves where both sides are on show!
I’ve been offline for a bit as I had a nasty pneumonia which has taken a long time to recover from, but I’ve been asked for more detail on how I double knit for ages so figured I would come back with my most requested video!
In this one I am working on the Adventures of Family Fox scarf pattern which I was very kindly #gifted by @katharina.kuntz (whose Over The Garden Wall scarf pattern also features).
I’m making it for my husband for Christmas and currently have about 400 rows left to do- do you think I’ll make it in time?? Anyone else hitting the gift-knitting panic season?? 😅

Also pls excuse the slightly cut off end, I had to cut it to under 3 mins for reels 😅

Some of my favourite sections from my Spirit of the West scarf pattern 💗🐎

I really wanted this one to read as one complete journey from start to finish, with each scene rolling into the next.

Can you tell I really liked the tiny horse in the background in the first scene? It was a last minute addition and I liked it so much I ended up doing a few whole scenes at that scale, including the last (and arguably most important one). I really liked the challenge of making something with so little detail still capture the moment I was trying to convey. Hopefully it comes across!!

Pattern is available on Ravelry
My test sample was knit in knitting for olive merino in the colours dusty honey and dark cognac 🍯 🥃

Does my scarf dazzle you?

Well fear not spider monkey; the pattern for The Scarf of a Killer is out and available on Ravelry. ✨🧛🐺

I spent all of last autumn and winter designing and knitting The Scarf of a Killer, so I can confirm it makes a perfect cosy autumn knit project. I’m actually a bit sad not be making one again this winter, but I do have a much sparklier personal project I’ll be working on instead…more on that in good time 🤭

Also, donations are continuing on this pattern until 28th Feb. 2027, with £1 per pattern sale going to the Quileute Tribe’s Move to Higher Ground project, which is currently in Phase 2. More information can be found here: https://mthg.org/

Which is your favourite? 🦢🐴👯‍♀️🌅🦊🧛 by @dottieknots

One of my favourite things since I’ve learned to knit is being able to make the things I’d never be able to buy. It really makes me want to learn to sew….

Also a cheeky sneak peak of progress on the Spirit of the West scarf. I admittedly hit a bit of a wall with this one so I stopped to finish my Girls Trip top (base pattern by @tuvasandok over which I duplicate stitched the album design). My mission is still to release the pattern this month so I’ll be working hard on that and might finally dip my toes into long form content on the process….(maybe!)

Meanwhile in the background I finally managed to find time to cast on my free bookmark pattern design. It’s long overdue so I’m hoping to make fast progress on that!

Patterns-
The Spirit of the West scarf (by me, in progress)
The Scarf of a Killer (by me- on Ravelry)
The Sandok Tank-top by Tuva Sandok by @dottieknots

If there’s one thing about me it’s that I will be making whatever my heart desires 💗

Made myself a Girls Trip top to go see @zaralarsson in Edinburgh in a few weeks 🐬

And of course, I had to put something on the back as well 🤭 I actually had this one sitting for a while as I initially cast it off too soon and it was more cropped than I wanted, but I finally got around to life lining it and adding some more length in this weekend and I’m so glad I did as it’s much more my style now 🌞

(I’m also going to be making a special ocean themed purse…hopefully)

Knit in @dropsdesign Drops Daisy held together with @rowanyarns mohair. Pattern is the Sandok tank top (by @tuvasandok ) which I duplicate stitched the design onto 🌺 by @dottieknots
