We often assume that when someone doesn’t like, comment, share, or interact with a content creator, it’s because of jealousy, competitiveness, cynicism—or simply because they don’t like the content.

But psychology and recent research suggest that the story may be much more nuanced.

There’s a growing group of social media users researchers refer to as “lurkers”—people who consume content but rarely engage publicly, and yet, they may be highly active consumers of products, services, and ideas they discover through social media.

So why the silence?

1. The fear of exposure
Some people are simply very private. Liking or commenting publicly can feel like revealing something about themselves: I’m interested in this. I relate to this. I need this. I’m going through this.

2. The ego factor
Yes, sometimes it really is about ego.
Some people have an internal hierarchy of who they consider “worth” engaging with. They may feel that liking, commenting on, or publicly supporting someone else’s content somehow puts them beneath that person—or gives that person too much importance.

3. The “sitting room vs. private room” effect
Social interaction has increasingly moved from the public space of comments into the private space of DMs.
Instead of tagging a friend publicly or sharing an opinion in the comments, people send the post privately. The interaction still happens—but the content creator no longer sees it.

4. Growing scepticism about authenticity
With AI-generated and increasingly sophisticated content, people are becoming more cautious.
They may hesitate to engage because they’re questioning whether what they’re consuming is genuine, authentic or relatable.

5. The comment section as a battlefield
Online hostility should not be underestimated.
One innocent comment can sometimes attract criticism, judgement, mockery—or outright abuse. For some people, the emotional cost simply isn’t worth it.

Engagement is not always visible, and our impact cannot always be measured by the noise it creates, but msybe by the quiet ways it moves people, changes perspectives, inspires action, or simply stays with them long after they've scrolled away.

I’m a life coach—and yes, there are many of us. But every coach has a different area of focus, a different approach, and a different kind of person they feel called to support.

My specialty is change management.

But what does that really mean?

For me, change management begins with being prepared for change: acknowledging that change is part of life, learning to stay flexible when it arrives, and recognising that resisting it can sometimes cost us our growth, development, and well-being.

My role is to help you navigate the change, rather than simply push you through it.

Together, we can explore:

1. What needs to change.
What in your life needs to be updated, upgraded, adjusted—or perhaps changed altogether?

2. How much change is needed.
Does it call for a radical shift, or would a gradual, step-by-step approach serve you better?

3. What is keeping you stuck.
What are the blocks, fears, or beliefs standing in your way? And where is your resistance to change really coming from?

4. Whether the time is right.
Sometimes we know it’s time to take the plunge. Other times, we need to pay attention to the signs, prepare ourselves, and build the courage and confidence to take that first step.

5. How to accept what cannot be changed.
Because some changes are inevitable. The question then becomes: How do we meet them, adapt, and move forward without losing ourselves in the process?

Does any of this sound familiar?

Does change worry you? Do you sometimes feel that you lack the mindset, clarity, or tools to navigate what’s ahead?

You don’t have to figure it all out alone.

We can manage this phase together—one step, one decision, one change at a time.

If you’re standing at the edge of a transition and wondering what comes next, drop me a message.
Let’s talk.

The Odyssey.. a comparison
Homer’s Odysseus is a proud, cunning, unashamed of his survival tactics and morally skewed driven by glory and fate, whereas Christopher Nolan's film reimagines him as a traumatized veteran suffering from PTSD and guilt. While Homer’s hero accepts his world of active divine intervention and tests of cunning, Nolan sees Odysseus through the lense of memory, trauma, and self-redemption.

In other words, Nolan's protagonist is a departure from the arrogant gods' defying super hero towards a relatable, more realistic everyday man who is fighting his own demons to come to terms with his loss, his pain and his guilt, to finally come back home to himself and his own truth.

And yes some journeys back home may take 10 years to distangle our intricate patterns and traumas and heal and be ready to find our real home.. I guess Homer was a life coach after all?
