Incredibly thankful for another opportunity to showcase our lymphedema research at this years Plastic Surgery The Meeting #PSTM.

Congratulations to all the presenters! We are all making a difference in the study and practice of academic plastic and reconstructive surgery.

Here’s looking forward to next year! by @dr.adanacampbell

I am grateful for the remarkable opportunity to showcase our research at two esteemed plastic surgery conferences in Boston over the weekend: the American Association of Plastic Surgeons (@aaps1921 ) and the Plastic Surgery Research Council (@psrc_1955 ).

Securing an invitation for a podium presentation (slide 3) and acceptance to the poster competition was a significant achievement and truly highlights the quality of our research in secondary lymphedema at @memorialsloankettering .

I extend my heartfelt thanks to my mentor, @mehrara , for his continued support. Additionally, I express gratitude to the PSRC for acknowledging our work as exemplary and for selecting me as the recipient of the Shenaq award for the best oral presentation by an international medical school graduate (@stgeorgesu ).

I am looking forward to exciting advancements and scientific breakthroughs in plastic and reconstructive surgery in the upcoming year. Until next time! by @dr.adanacampbell

Another incredible year at #PSTM. Thank you to @plasticsurgerythemeeting for this opportunity to present our research on secondary lymphedema. It is the continued support from your organization that is helping to increase the awareness of this incurable disease.

In addition to attending informative lectures and innovative sessions, I was able to network with brilliant plastic surgeons in varying specialities and academic positions.

Thank you to @wocprs and @garnessociety for fostering a space for diversity and inclusion in this speciality. Change starts with action, and you all are at the forefront of this initiative.

See you next year in San Diego!

A huge thank you to the @northeasternsociety for recognizing our research in secondary lymphedema at this years 40th meeting in our nations capital.

In addition to the incredible opportunity to present our work, I had the privilege of engaging in insightful discussions about navigating this journey to plastic surgery with giants in the field.

This inscription of ‘A Soldiers Journey’ is a reminder that sometimes struggle precedes the biggest victory; learn from them and push on.

Dr.Kpodzo’s talk highlighted this truth and helped me to redefine F.E.A.R in the pursuit of excellence. She reminded me that I too can achieve success in places that have historically held limited space for voices like mine.

Lastly, I am thankful to my mentor, Dr.Mehrara for cultivating an environment of learning and for trusting me to represent our lab on such an important platform.

The American Association of Plastic Surgeons (@aaps1921) meeting was nothing short of amazing.

It was a great opportunity to network with so many giants in the field, including the incredible Dr. Kerry-Ann Mitchell and Dr. Kerri Woodberry; two surgeons dedicated to transforming the face of academic plastic surgery.

I am extremely honored to have received one of the top 10 best abstract submissions for our study on skin barrier dysfunction in lymphedema.

Thank you again to the association for this incredible recognition and the continued support and guidance of my mentor, Dr.Mehrara. by @dr.adanacampbell

I am thankful for opportunities to inspire the next generation of physician scientists.

I had an amazing afternoon teaching middle schoolers the basics of genetics and cancer biology at The Dock Street School.

We had fun decoding DNA messages and learning about ways to prevent and combat different types of cancer.

How are you working to inspire the next generation of leaders?

The term “Diversity and Inclusion” has lost significant meaning, in part because of its overuse and under-implementation by the organizations that promote it.

Over the past 10 years there has been no change in the representation of ethnic minorities among plastic surgery applicants, trainees, and academic faculty in the United States.

@preppedprs (Plastic Surgery Research, Education, and Preparation Promoting Equity and Diversity) is one of the few programs designed to change these statistics.

I am honored to have participated in the inaugural PREPPED program. As PREPPED is gearing up to begin its second annual program, I am reminded that increasing resources for underrepresented applicants and expanding leadership positions to include minority faculty is a key component to closing the gap on healthcare disparities.

My hope is that more institutions will be intentional about creating a culture that is diverse and inclusive of all backgrounds.
