POSTS STORIES REELS

Everyone always asks “why Sonder?” This definition is my why.

I don’t know when medicine became ten minutes of face time with your provider. One symptom per visit.

You mention something else going on and you’re told to address it at your next visit, as if your body operates on a scheduling system

I don’t know when medicine stopped being about listening, or connecting the dots between sleep, hormones, gut, stress, pain..because rarely are they separate. They are often all the same story, just told through different symptoms.

I’m not saying every doctor is like this, I know so many good ones who are stretched too thin by a system not built for depth. I also know a handful that still do take the time with each patient and I am always blown away, as that’s not standard anymore

Sometimes I can’t help but YAP too hard, I’m looking for connections, themes, threads that lead me to new ways of viewing your system

My standard is treating you like the complex and profound human you are.

You are a whole world, your care should reflect that.

this is me “taking a break” in between sessions.
laptop open, coffee hot, brain still going, probably deep diving how i can help you better.
i’m dr. jackie - acupuncturist, chinese medicine doc, functional medicine nerd, lover of all foods, personal trainer, and apparently someone who thinks a velvet chair and a ceramic mug counts as a full reset.
(it kind of does though.)
if you’re new here: hi. i treat sports injuries, gut health, women’s hormones, pain, and nervous systems that have been running on fumes for far too long.

things that regulate my nervous system better than any protocol i could write:
a dog leaning into me with their whole body weight.
that purple-gold alpenglow on the mountains at sunset. live music outside.
Chopping vegetables & cooking up something yummy
a lake or river at the most perfect summer temperature. pottery clearly made by someone’s hands.
a record someone loved enough to keep.
coffee. always coffee.

👀 Not your average doctor’s office! No cold fluorescent lights, no rushing in and out, no sterile waiting room.
Sonder is a dreamy little place where you’re the main character. It’s about warm lighting, good music, cozy treatment beds and an atmosphere that makes you want to kick your shoes off, sink into the heated bed and let out the biggest sigh.

A little acupuncture, warmth from moxibustion, maybe some fire cupping, and a whole lot of space to slow down and be taken care of. Because healthcare can feel different.

Liquid Gold recipe:

Ingredients:
Oxtail
Chicken feet
Beef bones
Water

2 tbsp Rice Vinegar or Apple Cider Vinegar

1-2 tbsps of Coriander Seeds
1 cardamon pod
3 Star Anise
4-6 dried cloves
1-2 tbsp of Fennel seeds
1-2 Cinnamon sticks
1 knob of Ginger root
1-2 large onions
1 Daikon
Lemongrass
Unreasonable amount of garlic cloves (personal preference :))

Optional:
Rock sugar
Fish Sauce

Truly, I don’t follow measurements really… but processing steps definitely matter with this.

1. Bake Beef bones at 450 degrees for 40 minutes until browned. Optional to bake or char sliced ginger, cubed/halved onions, garlic, lemongrass. Pour 1-2 tbsp of rice vinegar on all of this before it goes to bake
2. Boil all chicken feet and oxtail for 10-15 minutes to clean the impurities, be sure to skim out the guck that accumulates on top.
3. Strain chicken feet and oxtail and scrub with cold water
4. Heat up a skillet and put all herbs /spices into it until you can smell their aroma
5. Place them into a cheesecloth bag or herbal strainer to be placed in the broth as it cooks, making it easy to remove
6. CROCKPOT TIME: PUT IT ALL INTO THE CROCK POT. Fill that bad boy with water and let that shit COOK, as long as you can. Add water as it diminishes. I like to cook mine on low for 10-13 hours
7. About 2-3 hours in remove the spices bag.
8. Once this bad boy cools it will be gelatinous wiggly nutrient dense gold

A little reminder that we can be intentional about what we invite into our space, our minds and our days. Find your rhythm. today mine is geeking out over my pretty new vinyl from a show I went to last night 😍

When you work as a Doctor of Chinese Medicine, there’s no such thing as “too much information”
Every detail, every symptom, every little thing you might think is TMI offers a piece of the puzzle and valuable insight into your body’s inner workings.
Nothing is too gross. Nothing is too personal. Nothing needs to be hidden away in shame. There is no judgment here.
My only ask is that you come as you are, with openness and a willingness to be vulnerable. The more I understand, the better I can support you.
You don’t have to be embarrassed by your body here. You get to be honest, curious, and fully human

Chinese Medicine reminds us that “health” isn’t simply the absence of symptoms.
It’s relationship.
Between rest and movement.
Between effort and ease.
Between ourselves and our community.

Between the seasons, our environment, our emotions, and the body we live in every day.

Acupuncture is one way I love to create that pause, a moment to step out of the noise and reconnect with yourself.
Not to become a “better” version of you.
But to come home to the one already there.

Also, I forgot what a banger this song was

Reframing the question can create an entirely different conversation.
Instead of asking, “What’s wrong with me?” we can ask, “What’s changed?”
That small shift changes the way we look at our bodies. Instead of blame, we bring warmth. Instead of judgment, curiosity. Instead of trying to fix or fight our bodies, we create space to listen, understand, and stay open to what they might be telling us. Sometimes it’s the season changing, the amount of water we’re drinking, shifting our bedtime too much, getting a new detergent…reframe the question.
