POSTS STORIES REELS

Hi, I’m Dr. Meenal Agarwal. 👋🏽

I’m an optometrist—but lately, I’m thinking less about what happens in front of our eyes and more about what happens behind them.

Because you can have 20/20 vision and still feel overwhelmed in crowds, depend on GPS, feel uncomfortable driving, or simply prefer staying home.

I started noticing it in my patients.

Then it happened to me.

I stopped driving. Unfamiliar places became uncomfortable. My world slowly got smaller.

So I started asking:
What is modern life doing to the way our brains navigate, connect with, and feel safe in the world around us?

That question became my upcoming book, Stuck in a Flat World.

Around here: eyes + brain + screens + spatial awareness + real life.

If you’ve ever thought, “Why does the world feel like too much?” — follow along. 👀

I wrote the book I wished existed. 📖

Our brains were built for a 3D world. So what happens when we spend more and more of our lives in a flat one?

For years, I looked at eyes. But eventually, I realized the bigger story was what was happening behind them.

Why do so many of us feel more anxious, distracted and overwhelmed?
Why are kids struggling with coordination and navigating the world around them?
Why can crowds, driving and unfamiliar places suddenly feel exhausting?

I kept coming back to the same question: Could the way we're living be part of the problem?

We rarely talk about what our increasingly screen-based lives may be doing to the brain systems involved in spatial awareness, navigation, attention and our sense of safety.

So after years of research, patient stories, questions—and a very personal journey—I finally get to hold this in my hands:

STUCK IN A FLAT WORLD 📖

😭📖 THE WAIT IS OVER!!!

STUCK IN A FLAT WORLD is officially out today, worldwide!
We spend more time looking at screens than ever before. But have you ever wondered what we’re not doing while we’re looking at them? What happens when our brains spend more time interacting with a flat screen than experiencing the real, three-dimensional world?
That question became Stuck in a Flat World.
This isn’t another book telling you to throw away your phone. It’s about understanding what screens may be replacing and how we can reconnect with the real world.

And I’m honestly overwhelmed by what some incredible experts have said about it. 🥹
❤️ “A timely and inspiring roadmap to reclaiming our brain’s remarkable potential.” @davidperlmutter
❤️ “I couldn't put the book down and will have my teenage kids read it ASAP.” @dr.amybkillen
❤️ "A fascinating perspective on how our environments influence attention, movement, and connection." @drjoelgator
❤️ “Stuck In A Flat World asks questions our modern environments have been dodging for years. @cynthia_thurlow_
❤️ “When so many of us feel overwhelmed, disconnected, and stretched thin, Stuck in a Flat World offers a compassionate reminder.” @monasharma
❤️ “A timely and needed book for parents raising children in a world that looks very different from the one we grew up in.” @mccallmcphersonpa
❤️ “This isn’t just a book about screen time. It’s about reclaiming our attention, our humanity, and our freedom to live fully.” @drdavidrabin
❤️ “The perfect mix of warmth, clinical edge, and quiet urgency.” @drandreamatsumura

I wrote this for children, for adults, for parents, for anyone who feels overwhelmed or disconnected, and for anyone who wants to feel more present, connected, and confident in the real world.

It’s time to look up, explore, and reconnect.

Watching my mom hold Stuck in a Flat World for the first time made this whole journey suddenly feel very real.

For years, this book existed as an idea in my head, then random notes on my phone, then pages on my laptop, then a manuscript.

Now it’s a real book and having my mom be one of the first people to hold it means everything. Like the daughter she raised, educated, believed in, and supported finally did it. ❤️

Stuck in a Flat World is OUT worldwide November 2.

🤫 And if you’re curious… there’s a little surprise waiting—link in my bio.

Your kid can read the bottom line of the eye chart and still be lost in the real world. What if the meltdowns, the clumsiness, and the fear of driving aren’t behavior at all, but a brain that has forgotten how to read space?

Dr. Meenal Agarwal is a board-certified optometrist with over 20 years in practice. She is known for her book Stuck in a Flat World, and her podcast, Uncover Your Eyes. We talk about how screens rewire spatial awareness, what your eyes reveal about whole-body health, and how menopause affects vision.

When did staying home become easier than going out? 👀🧠
Or using GPS become easier than finding our own way?

As an optometrist, I started noticing something in my patients, my own life, and the world around me.

And it made me ask a question: What if the biggest problem with screen time isn't what we're watching, but what we're no longer doing?

That question became my new book, Stuck in a Flat World. 📖

Because it's not about giving up screens. It's about getting more of our 3D world back.

🤫 Comment “3D” and I'll send you a little surprise before my November 2 launch!

I thought an apple was the healthier choice. Then I checked my blood sugar. 🍎🍫😳

Even as a doctor, I didn't expect THAT.

But here's the twist: A bigger glucose spike doesn't necessarily mean a food is less healthy.

I talk with @astarrberger of @thewelldrop about personalized nutrition and why our bodies don't always respond the way we expect.

I never dreamed of writing a book.
Honestly? I'm not even a reader. It's embarrassing that I can count on my fingers how many non-science books I've read in life.

But then I lived through something I couldn't explain, and I started seeing pieces of it in my patients. Eventually I realized,
I didn't want to write a book BUT I needed to tell this story.

Now Stuck in a Flat World is about to be out in the actual world. AND yes, I'm freakin scared 🥹
What if no one reads it?
What if no one understands it?
What if the idea I've spent years thinking about doesn't matter to anyone?

But underneath all of that, I'm SO pumped because the story that once existed in my head is about to become a conversation other people can have.

Next week .... HERE WE COME! 💪

Your shoes didn't shrink. Your feet may have changed. 👟👀

We talk about hot flashes, brain fog, and sleep problems during menopause. But nobody talks about what happens to your FEET. 👣

Could perimenopause and menopause be changing your shoe size, arches, or even contributing to foot pain?

I asked podiatrist @thesoledoctor what every woman should know.

You might want to rethink the shoe size you've been buying for years.
