✨ PHYSICAL THERAPY PROFESSION — QUESTIONS? ✨ Swipe through to learn what PT really is, what we do, and how we help you move, heal, and perform at your best. ➡️ • What is Physical Therapy? PT focuses on restoring movement, reducing pain, and helping you return to the activities you love through exercise, manual therapy, and functional training. • Are PTs doctors? Yes — Physical Therapists are Doctors of Physical Therapy (DPTs). (January 1, 2016, all CAPTE-accredited entry-level physical therapy programs in the U.S. required the DPT as the entry-level degree.) A DPT is a clinical doctorate that prepares clinicians to evaluate, diagnose, and treat movement-related conditions. BUT — there’s a difference between a Doctor of Physical Therapy and a Medical Doctor (MD/DO). A DPT is a movement specialist, focusing on biomechanics, neuromuscular systems, injury rehabilitation, and performance. A medical doctor is a physician who focuses on disease, pathology, and medical management, including medications, imaging interpretation, and surgery. Both are “doctors,” but with different scopes and roles in patient care. • Can PTs diagnose? Yes — we diagnose movement and musculoskeletal conditions to guide your rehab plan. • Can PTs prescribe medication? No — Physical Therapists cannot prescribe medications. Our scope focuses on natural, movement-based interventions: • Exercise • Manual therapy • Functional training • Pain modulation strategies • Education • Injury prevention Some states allow PTs to recommend certain over-the-counter options (like heat/ice, topicals, etc.), but we do not prescribe pharmaceuticals. • Do you need a prescription for PT? In most states, no. Direct Access allows you to see a PT without a referral, though some insurances may still require one. What should you expect when going to Physical Therapy? Most people have the misconception that Physical Therapist is only massage, stretching, and manipulation. A lot of first time patients are surprise when I say "ok it's time to do some exercises" Physical Therapist are movement specialist and our job is to help you reach your movement goals, be pain free, and functional as possible. We do this by prescribing exercises personalized to you for maximal results. The Manual Therapy we do is additive treatment to help accelerate your rehab. Exercise is the best medicine and it's natural 🏋🏋🏾‍♀️🏋🏾‍♂️🏋🏻 Follow for more content ✅ Like this reel to show support ❤️ Comment your thoughts on Physical Therapy 📝 Share to friends and family 🗣️ Save this reel for later 💾 #physicaltherapy #physicaltherapist #physiotherapy #physiotherapist #dptstudent #studentdpt #healthcare #doctorofphysicaltherapy #fitness #motivation #exercise #fyp #explorepage #viral by @dr.rick_dpt

As a Doctor of Physical Therapy, these are some of the exercises I like to incorporate into an athlete’s rehab progression following an ankle injury — depending on the injury, stage of healing, and individual needs. 🔹 Ankle 4-Way w/ PJF Band Builds strength through inversion, eversion, dorsiflexion, and plantarflexion while improving the ankle’s ability to control movement in multiple directions. 🔹 Weighted Heel Raises Develops calf and plantarflexor strength, which are critical for sprinting, jumping, accelerating, and producing force off the ground. 🔹 Pogo Hops w/ PJF Band Now we’re introducing reactive loading and ankle stiffness. Pogo hops teach the athlete to quickly absorb and produce force through the ankle while improving elasticity, coordination, and lower-extremity control — all important qualities for sprinting, jumping, and reacting on the football field. 🔹 Lateral Skier Hops w/ PJF Band Challenges lateral stability, force absorption, coordination, and the ability to control the body during side-to-side movements — essential for cutting and changing direction. 🔹 Single-Leg 3-Way Reach w/PJF Band A great proprioception and neuromuscular-control exercise that challenges single-leg balance while requiring the athlete to maintain control in multiple directions. Ankle rehab isn’t just about getting out of pain. We need to progressively prepare the athlete for what football actually demands: SPRINTING • CUTTING • JUMPING • LANDING • REACTING • ACCELERATING • CHANGING DIRECTION The goal isn’t just to get back on the field — it’s to get back READY to perform. 🏈💪🏾 QUESTION: Which of these exercises would you add to an athlete’s ankle rehab progression? 👇🏾 #AnkleRehab #FootballRehab #SportsPhysicalTherapy #ReturnToSport #sportsrehab by @dr.rick_dpt
Return-to-sport ankle rehab isn’t just about getting out of pain—it’s about preparing the ankle for the demands of your sport. 🏃🏾‍♂️💪🏾 Here are 4 exercises I use to challenge different aspects of ankle function: 🔹 Lateral Hops Off a BOSU Ball – challenges dynamic ankle stability and control. 🔹 Bulgarian Split Squat Jumps – develops single-leg power and explosiveness. 🔹 Skier Hops + Water Tank – challenges dynamic stability while reacting to an external stimulus. 🔹 Agility Ladder Drills – works on coordination, rhythm, foot speed, and movement control. Return to sport should be progressive and sport-specific. Your ankle needs to be ready to handle speed, force, instability, and unexpected movement—not just everyday activities. Question: Which of these exercises would challenge your ankle the most? 👇🏾 #AnkleRehab #ReturnToSport #SportsPhysicalTherapy #AthleteRehab #InjuryRecovery by @dr.rick_dpt

YOU PUT IN THE WORK DURING THE WEEK, YOU DOMINATE ON SATURDAY! 🏈💪 35-0 to close out the regular season! Now it’s time to turn our attention to the playoffs! 🔥 The secret isn’t just showing up on game day. It’s what you do when nobody’s watching throughout the week. Strength training, injury rehab, mobility, and recovery all play a role in keeping your body ready to perform when it matters most. In-season training isn’t just about recovery. It’s about MAINTAINING YOUR STRENGTH, addressing injuries, improving mobility, and keeping your body performing at its highest level throughout a demanding football season. You can’t dominate on Saturday if you aren’t putting in the work Monday through Friday! Take care of your body, put in the work, and let the results speak for themselves. 35-0. Regular season COMPLETE. ✅ PLAYOFFS, WE’RE COMING FOR YOU! 🏆 The best ability is availability. #SportsPhysicalTherapy #FootballRehab #AthletePerformance #InSeasonTraining #returntosport by @dr.rick_dpt
🏈 REHAB DURING THE WEEK = GAME-TIME DOMINANCE. 💪🏾🔥 Everybody talks about recovery on Saturday and Sunday, but I believe the real work happens throughout the week! As a physical therapist, my goal isn’t to wait until an injury happens to start addressing a problem. It’s to keep my athletes STRONG, MOBILE, and GAME-READY all season long. 💯 ✅ Address issues before game day. ✅ Maintain strength, mobility, and stability. ✅ Build resilience to help reduce injury risk. ✅ Keep athletes performing at their highest level when the lights come on. Because when Friday night or Saturday rolls around, it’s time to execute — not play catch-up with your body. 🏈💥 The goal is simple: PREPARE DURING THE WEEK. DOMINATE ON GAME DAY. Those rehab sessions you see? They’re part of the work that helps translate into touchdowns on the field! 🏆 Remember: The best ability is AVAILABILITY. Stay ready so you don’t have to get ready! #SportsPhysicalTherapy #FootballRehab #InjuryPrevention #ReturnToSport #gamedayready by @dr.rick_dpt
💙 HAPPY PHYSICAL THERAPY MONTH! 🦴💪🏾 Shoutout to all the PTs, PTAs, and PT students out there making a difference across every setting — outpatient, inpatient, acute care, home health, pediatrics, geriatrics, sports, and beyond! 🙌🏾 I know there’s a lot of negativity surrounding our profession right now, and we all know physical therapy isn’t perfect. But sometimes, we need to take a step back and remember WHY WE CHOSE THIS PROFESSION IN THE FIRST PLACE. At the end of the day, we have the opportunity to change lives every single day. We help people get back on their feet, return to the sports they love, regain their independence, overcome their limitations, and do things they once thought were impossible. That’s something special. ❤️ So, despite the challenges, the long days, the paperwork, and everything else that comes with the job, don’t forget the impact you make. Every patient you help is a reminder that what we do MATTERS. The world is a better place because of physical therapy. 🌎💙 Keep showing up. Keep advocating for our profession. Keep changing lives. And most importantly, keep being proud of the work you do! Happy Physical Therapy Month to everyone out there making a difference! 🏆💪🏾 #PhysicalTherapyMonth #PhysicalTherapist #PhysicalTherapy #PTStrong #ChangingLives by @dr.rick_dpt
🏈 THE BEST ABILITY IS AVAILABILITY! 💯 If you want to make plays on Friday nights or Sundays, you have to take care of your body during the week! 💪🏾 A long, physical football season will test you mentally and physically. Staying on the field means putting in the work when nobody is watching: rehabbing, improving mobility, building strength, recovering properly, and addressing the little things before they become bigger problems. 🚫 No excuses. No shortcuts. Just discipline and consistency. You can’t give your best on the field if you aren’t taking care of your body off the field. Don’t wait until you’re injured to start prioritizing your health. Be proactive, trust the process, and put in the work to give yourself the best chance to stay healthy and contribute to your team’s success. Want to stay on the field? START TAKING CARE OF YOUR BODY! 🏈🔥 #PhysicalTherapy #FootballRehab #SportsRehabilitation #ReturnToSport #AthletePerformance by @dr.rick_dpt
STOP QUITTING ON YOURSELF. 🗣️💯 It’s okay to make mistakes. It’s okay to fall short. It’s okay to fail. What’s NOT okay is making the same mistake over and over without learning from it. People say there are winners and losers, but my perspective? You never truly lose when you choose to learn. Every mistake is a lesson. Every setback is an opportunity to grow. Take what life teaches you, apply it, and keep moving forward. And most importantly, NEVER QUIT. 🏆 Sometimes, the gold is closer than you think. Sometimes, you’re one more rep, one more attempt, one more day, or one more decision away from breaking through. The problem is that too many people quit right before they reach it. They walk away without realizing how close they were to everything they worked for. So learn from your mistakes. Adjust your approach. Stay disciplined. Keep pushing, even when things get hard. YOU’RE NOT DONE UNTIL YOU QUIT. AND IF YOU NEVER QUIT, YOU GIVE YOURSELF A CHANCE TO WIN. 🔥 Keep going. Your breakthrough could be closer than you think! #MotivationMonday #NeverQuit #MindsetMatters #KeepPushing #DisciplineOverMotivation by @dr.rick_dpt
You really want to be GREAT? Then you have to WANT IT. 🔥 Be obsessed with the goal. Be obsessed with the work. Be obsessed with becoming the person you know you’re capable of becoming. Because when you become obsessed with it, discipline becomes a habit. The early mornings, late nights, setbacks, sacrifices, and hard work become part of the process. DON’T QUIT. KEEP GOING. YOU’RE CLOSER THAN YOU THINK. Be obsessed. Stay disciplined. Trust the process. Your time is coming. 💯 #MondayMotivation #StayDisciplined #DontQuit #KeepGoing #BeGreat by @dr.rick_dpt
