We keep asking leaders to handle more pressure then act surprised when the cost shows up in burnout, poor decisions and the bottom line. The answer to more complexity cannot simply be to move faster, work harder and become “more resilient.” Because under pressure, our strengths can become our defaults. The driven leader keeps pushing when the team needs space to think. The analytical leader keeps analysing when action is needed. The relational leader avoids conflict when a hard conversation is necessary. The fast decision-maker moves before enough information is available. The strength isn’t the problem. The problem is lack of range. For me, Embodied Leadership is knowing how your mind, body and behaviour shape the way you lead — and building the capacity to think clearly, show up congruently and perform effectively across a wider range of demands, especially under pressure. Because when leaders don’t have that range, the cost doesn’t stay personal. It shows up in missed opportunities, slower execution, disengaged teams, rework, turnover and ultimately weaker business performance. High performance isn’t about tolerating more pressure. It’s about having more ways to respond to it, preferably embodied. by @dr_adrienne_leussa
