Congrats to Dr. Tiara Cash, who graduates this week with a PhD in Social Psychology!

"During my time at SFU, my favorite memories revolve around the community of people I found here. From the PNE trips with the Students of Caribbean and African Ancestry (@sfusoca) and the First Nations, Inuit, and Metis Student Assocation (@sfu.fnmisa), to dinners with the Psychology Department's Social area, and being honored as a founding member of the Black Caucus, I have so many incredible memories. SFU is about the people you find here. I realize that the communities that we make here are long-lasting and deep connections.

I’d like to give a special shoutout to the Helping and Happiness Lab, my supervisor Dr. Lara Aknin, and especially Dr. Jason Proulx. Jason was not only my lab mate but also a close friend - I truly wouldn’t be here without him. He edited my papers, helped me troubleshoot syntax, and encouraged me in everything I did at SFU and beyond. I’m deeply thankful for his love and support, and as I walk across this stage, I carry his enduring love with me.”

After graduating, she plans to continue consulting and presentation work through her organization Crowned Vitta LLC @crownedvittallc, which supports organizations in mindfulness and equity. She also plans to continue working in a nonprofit to engage marginalized research voices in creating community-driven projects. #sfupsyc #sfu #sfupsycstories #mysfugrad #sfualumni @helpingandhappinesslab by @sfupsychology

I’ve thought long and hard about what to say, because these photos, this regalia, this jewelry means so much to me. But, the truth is these photos speak for themselves. I’m not supposed to be here. We weren’t supposed to be here. And yet, I’m alive, I THRIVE and I know. I AM KNOWN. I thank my mommy, my O’pa, my Granmammie, my great grandfather and every one down this line who knows me. I thank the Jordans, the McMillians, the Bannisters, the Rowes, the Cashs, the Jackocks, and everyone who I am known to.

I am Black American. I am Choctaw.
I am loved.

Pausing my break for an exciting announcement!

I'm excited to be joining the Black Women Thrive Conference this fall in Jacksonville, Florida hosted by @sistersoulglow, where I'll be sharing insights on mental health, wellbeing, and creating pathways toward collective healing and flourishing.

Grateful for the opportunity to learn, connect, and grow alongside such a powerful community of Black women.

See you in Jacksonville!

Crowned Vitta Family, if you have 10 minutes in your day I invite you to take a moment to practice with me! These days have been long and hard, and every moment I’m realizing how important our community practices are for our longevity and liberation.

When you’re done, come back and let us know: what you noticed; how it felt to practice today; and send a little love into our community!

It is with deep gratitude and humbleness that I share this offering of love with you. Thank you all for being you! ❤️

I’m finally back in house, but BOY have the last 3 weeks been filled with new networks, family, and relatives!

First I had the pleasure of meeting so many people at the Art & Science of Health Promotion Conference in Colorado Springs.

Then headed to Oklahoma where I met up with @emototo and @haiakvtme and we had the HONOR of hanging out with Sache, Mrs. Rhonda, and Sache’s grandfather Mr. Shaw. Then headed to Black Wall Street where we saw Greenwood and where the Tulsa Massacre took place. Got to lay our hands on the bricks that held memories of Black Brilliance and met up with Mr. Terry Baccuss, the “major of Greenwood”. Then we headed down to Choctaw country where we went to the Choctaw Cultural Center. Ate Tanchi Labona (Stewed Hominy and Pork) and Paki Walakshi (Grape Dumplings) and got to see some relics from Mississippian Culture. And finished the week by getting a tour of the Creek Freedman Museum from Mrs. Rhonda! I wish I could share all the photos and experiences with y’all.

Then came home to MORE family! Where we had mini ASU reunion and my mom’s people came down. Hung with my Aunt Ruthie, Uncle Steve, Aunt Dee Dee and Hannah who I hadn’t seen in a while.

Feeling full of love. ❤️ by @sfupsychology

People in our community are carrying the weight of global crises; from grief, violence, displacement, and systemic oppression in regions like Iran, Congo, Sudan, and Palestine.

These experiences don’t stay overseas. They show up here; in our neighbours, coworkers, and community members. And, too often, mental health support is out of reach.

We’re raising $3,500 to provide trauma-informed therapy and community-based support for individuals in Langley, Surrey, Ridge Meadows, and Tri-Cities.

🧡 $50 = one therapy session
🧡 $250 = full care for one person

Your donation helps someone access care, dignity, and a path toward healing.
