Started a new (to me) book by one of my favorite authors, Victor LaValle! This is one of his earliest books so I’m looking forward to seeing how it holds up against his newest works. Thank you @amandatacklestbr for buddy reading this one with me 🥰 I had to show off my engagement ring in the second slide 😆❣️ by @dreamgirlreading

“I’ll remember all this in my dreams,” “and so will your descendants.”

The Hatak Witches is murder mystery seeped in Native American folklore and creation stories. Imagine a presence so evil that all the creatures in an Oklahoma woody hallow scream and flee at once. Choctaw detective, Monique Blue Hawk, is called to a brutally gory crime scene at the Children’s Museum of Science and History she grew up going to. The murder takes place in the “room of secrets” where a cruel and shocking amount of stolen bones of Indigenous people from hundreds of years ago are being stored. Monique and her partner find that some of the bones are missing, but there is little to no documentation regarding who these ancient bones belong to. Not to mention, there are no fingerprints, shoe prints, or any proof of the assailant(s) presence. While investigating, Monique begins having unsettling dreams and then terrifying run ins with shape shifters. With the help of her uncle, who is the spiritual leader of her family, Monique develops a plan to fight this evil. by @dreamgirlreading
