This is my great-great-great-uncle Bronislaw Huberman, hanging out with a pretty familiar face. Born in 1882 in Poland, he was a violin prodigy who became famous for his powerful performances. He founded the Palestine Symphony Orchestra in 1937, giving Jewish musicians a lifeline as they fled Europe. His violin—a 1713 Stradivarius, known as the Gibson ex-Huberman—has its own wild story. It was stolen twice, vanished for decades, and finally recovered in the 1980s. Today, it’s played by the incredible Grammy-winning violinist Joshua Bell. Joshua recently performed in Melbourne, and through this family connection, I got to not only see the out-of-this-world performance but also got to meet him and round out the story. It’s one of those feel-good moments: music connects, family history is full of surprises, and people are pretty damn amazing. Thanks for the story, Bronislaw. 🎻✨ by @drewlipp
