📺 @drhelenbernie joined @abcnews @abcnewslive @thestephanieramos to discuss the military’s new policy: mandatory annual testosterone screenings for service members 30+.

👉🏻 Here are the key takeaways:

• Testosterone is more than a sex hormone. It’s an important biomarker of a man’s overall health, influencing energy, muscle strength, bone density, mood, cognition, and sexual health.
• Low testosterone isn’t just an aging issue. We see it in younger men as well, often related to obesity, poor sleep, chronic illness, medications, or other underlying medical conditions.
• Measure first, treat thoughtfully. You can’t treat what you don’t measure. Screening identifies men who deserve a thorough evaluation to determine why their testosterone is low and whether treatment is appropriate.
• Testosterone therapy should be used for the right patients. When men have symptoms of testosterone deficiency or consistently low testosterone levels, and appropriate monitoring, testosterone therapy is both safe and effective.

Routine screening gives the opportunity to identify an important health marker that has too often been overlooked. The goal isn’t to put every man on testosterone—it’s to identify those who may benefit from further evaluation and, when appropriate, treatment.

OMG!! It’s HERE, it’s HERE, it’s HERE!! 📚🎉❤️

Look what just arrived!! 👀

SO excited to get my hands on Dr. Rena Malik’s new book, The Hard Truth!

I absolutely LOVE seeing fellow urologists using their voices and platforms to break down the stigma surrounding sexual health, start important conversations, and empower people with real, evidence-based information!

As someone who is incredibly passionate about men’s health and sexual health, I know firsthand how desperately we need these conversations! Too many people suffer in silence, are embarrassed to ask questions, or simply don’t know where to turn for answers.

That’s why I LOVE seeing colleagues like Rena take these conversations beyond the exam room and bring them to the people who need to hear them most! ❤️

Rena, thank you so much for sending me a copy! Congratulations on this incredible accomplishment! I can’t wait to dive in!! 👏🎉

What an incredible week at #SMSNA2026! ❤️ Feeling especially grateful!

I couldn’t be more proud of our IU Men’s Health team! From podium presentations and research to panels and debates, our team showed up in a BIG way!

But what makes me even prouder is looking at these pictures and reflecting on just how far we’ve come.

When I came to Indiana University in 2019, I had a dream of building a comprehensive Male Sexual & Reproductive Medicine program. What started as a vision has grown into a thriving clinical and research program, an andrology fellowship, fertility preservation program, research fellows, incredible APPs, and a team of people who share a passion for advancing men’s health.
One of the most meaningful moments of this year’s conference had nothing to do with research or presentations. Two APPs from another institution came up to me just to share something they had noticed over the past two years. Every time they interacted with members of our team, they were struck by how happy, kind, supportive, and collaborative everyone was—and how much pride they took in caring for their patients. They simply wanted me to know that the culture we’ve built was noticeable, even to those outside our program. 🥹❤️

Of all the compliments I could have received, that one meant the most.

There’s something incredibly special about watching a dream grow into something so much bigger than yourself.

And while I’m incredibly proud of the research we’ve produced (wow!!) and the program we’ve built, I’m even prouder of the PEOPLE who make it all possible.

To our fellows, faculty, residents, APPs, researchers, medical students, and every member of our team—THANK YOU! Your hard work, dedication, kindness, and passion are what make this program so special.

And of course, one of the best parts of SMSNA is reconnecting with so many wonderful friends and colleagues who make this field so special!

Big dreams take great teams. And what a team we have! ❤️

The future of men’s health is bright, and we’re just getting started! 🚀

Testosterone therapy is evolving — and so is the conversation around its role in men’s health.

Join Amy Pearlman, MD, Abraham Morgentaler MD, FACS, Mohit Khera, MD, MBA, MPH, and Dr. Helen L. Bernie, DO, MPH, on October 20 for an expert discussion on the latest evidence and recent HHS/FDA labeling updates.

The panel will explore what these changes mean for testosterone therapy in men with testosterone deficiency, prostate cancer, and BPH, along with practical considerations for patient selection, shared decision-making, safety monitoring, and counseling.

Two days until #SMSNA26 at Orlando! 🌴

Here’s a preview of the many projects from the @iuurology Men’s Health team, led by @drhelenbernie, that we’re bringing to this year’s @smsna_org meeting! Proud of the work behind each of these projects and even more thankful for the people I get to work with along the way! 👏

Couldn’t be prouder of this group this weekend!

We had an amazing hands-on men’s health skills lab, and I was so impressed with everyone who came out on a Saturday to learn.

I was especially proud watching my fellows do such an incredible job proctoring and teaching throughout the day, our senior residents walking the junior residents through cases, and then our residents turning around and teaching our medical students.

There is something really special about watching our trainees grow not only technically, but into teachers and mentors themselves. Learn it, do it, teach it, and bring the next person along. ❤️

So proud of the incredible fellows, residents and medical students we have at @IUUrology and @IUMedSchool. This is what urological surgery education and mentorship are all about!

And a huge thank you to @smsna_org Katie and the @coloplast.us team for investing in our trainees and helping us create opportunities like this for our #RIG Regional interest groups. #menshealth @iumenshealth @nik.rakic @drhasimbakbakmd @guckien_do_it @ginbug_ @mayaataya @henrygold71 @iuurology @drhelenbernie by @drhelenbernie

First day of school! ❤️📚

And this year, the boys aren’t the only ones heading back to school… Mom is too. 😊

I recently started my MBA at the Kelley School of Business, and it feels a little surreal to be a student again while watching these three start another school year of their own. Especially considering my “baby” just started Kindergarten. 🥹

Life is definitely full right now 😂, but I’m really grateful for the opportunity to keep learning, grow as a leader, and continue pushing myself outside of my comfort zone. And maybe most importantly, I love that my boys get to see me doing it right alongside them — showing them that we should always keep learning, growing, and working to become better versions of ourselves.

Here’s to a new school year, lots of growth, and probably a whole lot of homework in our house. ❤️

Honored to join FOX59 this morning to discuss the recent FDA updates to testosterone labeling and what they mean for men.

Testosterone is more than a hormone—it can be an important biomarker of a man’s overall health. The conversation isn’t just about treating low testosterone; it’s about encouraging men to seek preventive care, identify underlying health conditions, and have informed discussions with their physicians.

Thank you to the FOX59 team for the opportunity to help translate the latest medical evidence into practical information for patients and families. I look forward to continuing these conversations and advancing men’s health education in our community and beyond. @fox59 @iu_health @drhasimbakbakmd @drhelenbernie @thairopereira_uro @lucasamorimmd @iuurology @iumenshealth
